Re: Testing testing ...

Hrmm .... If one uses the right battery in the remote it works more consistently :innocent: There should be a 3V CR2032, not the thinner CR2016.

I have tested a bit now and this controller works very well 😀. You have done a good job Lu :worship:
The quirks someone reported about not pushing the buttons to fast between the tasks I havent seen anything of. It works very fast indeed.
One malfunction (or bug) I have found though.
If I use CH- button it shows me total number of songs and total time. The only way to come back from that, as far as I have tested, is to press the play/pause button, then it starts all over from song 1 again :scratch1: .

How well does it work with different players?

The units I have tested is:
A noname CD rom 24X model nr.624A 365. Year 1998
Works very well. No problem.

Compac DVD rom model nr. GD-8000 Type CTO F/W 0008 Year 2001
Works OK but your not aloud to pause! Then the display hangs. It also starts playing immediately the CD is there. (The CD players tested just show total time/song and you have to press the play button before it plays.)

Compaq CD rom Model nr. CRD-8402B(CP6) F/W1.01 Year 2000
Works very well. No problem.

Compaq CD rom Model nr.LTN-486S-CA2 F/W YQS8 Year 2002
Works very well. No problem.

Anyone else done any testing yet?

Thanks Radioman62, thank you for you wonderful report😀

Hi Nolde, about 4 kits left:smash:
Total cost for one KIT is 35 USD🙂

Just got the manual, thanks Lu 🙂

My wonderings about the CH- button i now solved. It's the stop button :bulb:
The functions I was looking for was the total time left etc. It's probably not implemented and I wont miss it either 🙂

Now I want some pictures from other DIY folks on how they build in the player in a fancy enclosure. The easiest and cheapest seems so be to redo an old salvaged chassi? :wrench:

:cheerful:

Hi Radioman, Have a nice time 😀

Hi Vidalgo and Nolde, I got your payment 🙂

Hi cm, YGM :smash:

About 2 or 3 kits left:smash:

Hi Lu,

the kit arrived some weeks ago. Now I was able to give it a try. Works very well. Thank you very much.

Btw: I your DAC uses a cs8416 at the input and the supply voltage of the cs8416 is set to 5V (or more), it is capable to accept TTL-level spdif. There is no need to adjust the voltage. Of course it would be better if you did for further applications but it is not necessary for tests.

Best regards

Hi wurzel, invoice sent ^_^

Hi Floric, thank you for your feedback. Some DACs do accept TTL level spdif, but normal SPDIF will be accept by all the DACs.
Have a nice time 🙂

A descent CD player, suggestions

Hi all

I have done some more tests with some more CD players, together with my newbuilt high end TDA1541A DAC, and discovered that most of them are not so good ...:apathic:

When it work perfect with this controller, there is no SPDIF (TTL) out. If there is digital out there is some other quirk. F.E. the player doesn't run at 1X speed, some clicking when the player read, some dropouts on other players. Or some other malfunctions.

So, among all the pile of players I have tried I haven't found one suiting my audiophile needs, to be of use to my homemade CD player.🙄

Is there any tip on good players to seek for among all of us who bought this kit?
I would like to have a slim one with a slot instead of tray. I have seen some old sleek ones at auctions but they are SCSI :bawling:

I have some IDE nice TEAC players from -95 and 98 but they have no Digital out, just S1 or S2 (some subcode stuff ??) Some place to know how to hack them?

Any tip at all is cheereing me up 🙂
