If you consider that they probably had a small flurry of payments and limited number of employees, it would make sense to simply notify the person of the shipment. After all, that is the end goal, to ship product.

Another good question would be, why don't banks acknowledge that the payment was accepted? After all, the took a reasonable amount of money as a service charge and should probably notify you of either a payment rejection or acceptance. Would they? Or, do you have to check with the bank to see if the payment was rejected? Would your only notification be the funds returning on your next month's bank statement?

It could very well be that they shipped the product the same day that they received payment, in which case the ship notification really does also acknowledge that they received payment.
