have my XL's breaking in 2nd day using my hearing is believing spud amp 6cl6 low volume , I'm guessing 100 hours before I can turn it up , no problem, trout fishing season opened here Saturday, and cleanup from the build will keep me busy. I look forward to listening. thanks for the help!!!
Thanks ZMAN , and everyone, we should keep conversing here Dave would appreciate it good or bad . the problem I have is the math behind this speaker and how it comes to be , would really like to learn that aspect of how the speaker measurements and cabinet are figured out ???????
are these the new Tang Band drivers and how do you like them?
Fantastic driver IMO!

For my ears, definitely don't require a tweeter with these. I was very surprised at how good they sounded, especially the vocals. Amazing sound stage IMO!
Only problem others may have with this driver, is the low Xmax 2.5mm, especially when compared to the MA Pluvia 11 driver at 7mm one way.
I'm sure the MA drivers will clearly out perform in the lower freq department.
I use my TB's with a sealed 18" sub, so low Xmax of the TB's isn't an issue for me.

Wishing Dave all the best on his long recovery road. During his convalescence how does one pay for and acquire XL plans? Thanks.
Jason , I wonder if one of the new tang band drivers can be used in the FH3, or XL to any success ???
They start to sound good after the 100 hour low level break in routine, but really need 3-400 hours more to give of their best.
ya gotta make a donation to DIY 10 dollars and get the receipt to Chrisb
Chris? Are you now handling this?
kevner1954,
I did the break in according to instructions - 100+ hours at low volumes, and then gradually increased volume level and started playing more dynamic content; very limited listening during the initial period. When I did listen to it after 100+ hours, it sounded fine.

for the short term
how close to Nanaimo are you? If you've not already heard them, you might want to contact hobbers - I believe he has a working pair of XLs in Maple veneer with Pluvia 11s
Just listened normally, 2-4 hours at a stretch, gradually increasing listening volume. Although they did get the occasional window rattling workout.
I found that bass continues to improve even now, but the slight uppper end brightness/harshness disappears after 100 hours or so.

If I am not wrong, he does very nice work with real wood too... your FF85WK Mini-Onken was his doing?

Thanks Zman for the compliment.
Ilewellen you're more then welcome to come over to hear the pluvia11's.
They sound very good in the fhxl.
Still putting some hours on them, about 30 so far, they had some ringing in the top end at first, starting to disappear now.
Great soundstage and good bass that's improving with brake in.
