Thank you jon,
It is a possibility that I could move the screen back a bit to avoid losing the speakers behind it! Worth knowing.

Anyhow, my mind has drifted to thoughts of building something with a little more bottom end for the listening position shown - Lotus or Lotus ^ 2. It is fun, this speaker building malarkey! Where should I direct a few questions please?
Thanks to all here for so much inspiration.
How about the FH-XL? With a suitable driver that design is capable of providing plenty of low end oomph.
id like to say something of the damping / polyfil for the front of the cabinet ,under the driver ....... by all means install it and try it , then rip it out and adjust the bass by moving the cabinet in or out . this is with the FH mk3 with the mark audio A10p driver. you wont be sorry!!!!!
I'd say that the FHXL would be good here, should be easier than building the Lotus as well, although I always like to see some of Scott's larger designs get built 🙂
hope you have an explanation why it (the fh mk3) with mark audio 7P sounds soooo much better without the front damping . I accidentally put 10p in there because I'm building the fhxl's at present. pic me apart??????????
Hey everybody,
Thanks for all your suggestions re FHXL etc. I finally got some FE126En's to go into the FH3's shown in the pics earlier (+ ACA's) and had a first listen today. As expected, bass rather light, pulled well way from corners, baffles a few inches in front of screen. But every other aspect of the sound is wonderful. I let my mother have a listen, she went straight for the Buble CD's. I had to concede that it was very exciting listening to him and his band! Not sure about home cinema though - perhaps a bit delicate. Anyway, I have a much better frame of reference now for my next project. It will be interesting to try them in a more optimal location downstairs.
One slight problem - quite bit more hum because of increased sensitivity of speakers. Think I have a ground loop between CD and ACA's somewhere. Drat!

Trust you'll chase the hum out quickly enough.
Even with appropriate bass management - high pass and "subs" below around, say 100-120? the FE126 would probably run out of steam for home cinema in all but the smallest of rooms.

chrisb, yes, I'm sure you're right. To be honest, I wouldn't really want to throw those deep bass rumbles at them, it would feel like bullying. PS, are there any particular run in recommendations for these drivers, I couldn't find anything on that in the forums. Obviously there's lots of stuff on the Mark Audio drivers needing delicate handling initially.
hard wood?
Hi,
Probably off topic, a friend (I convinced him to built a pair ;-) has access to hard wood.
Is there any inconvenient to build a pair of FH (this is a horn, hard wood must be ok) in hard wood?
Many thanks guys,
Naca5

I'd personally not build a speakerout of hardwood, I know a lot do. Timber just isn't stable enough in my opinion. I've seen a few split speakers along the way.
Yeah maybe, but if you are going to the trouble of cutting laminations you may as well just veneer them.
