Makes me wonder if *any* of these guys want to do business.

Peter C,
yes, you are right. They are not uptone in spirit.
Nevertheless there are some mentality considerations to be taken.
French people please correct if i am wrong or grossly generalizing, that's not my intention, no offense meant.

France lives in sort of "splendid isolation" (although this has been always claimed for Britain).
They have considerable pride for their own achievements, history, culture, language. In language, it goes that far that common words of modern life the rest of the workd uses Armerican/English words for, particularly in the computer and internet field, are force-translated into French; it is forced by law to use French terms / replace foreign terms by French ones if the translation makes even the faintest sense. They have translated skateboard, electronic calculator, computer, use the translated terms in daily life.

I am just telling that to indicate that Supravox behaviour could be due to that different mentality.

My French is not good, anyway i try to translate it:

We thank you for the interest you have in Supravox products.
For that endevaour?restart? there show up several new possibilities.
First, Supravox suggests now a variety of enclosures (column, 3-way system and horns)
Please do have a look and discover them on our web site's new section dedicated to enclosures!
Apart from that, our 135 benefits from a new appearance/finish.
Enjoy your visit on our site.

Audiophilly yours,
the Supravox team.

Makes my smirk. :smirk: Merchants talk, trying to sell buttons and velvet ribbons.
Dunno what you asked them, Peter, but this answer is so stereotype that i wonder if they have any grasp of what you wanted to know, if they have even tried to get it.

That was kind of my point. I had Alta Vista translate that, because my French isn't good enough top ensure that I don't miss some nuances. Shouldn't have concerned myself about that, it said exactly what I thought it said, you confirm it. One can only conclude that they didn't "get it" concerning exchange rates, VAT, etc., the fundamentals of a trans-Atlantic retail business transaction.

Oh well, didn't want their stuff anyway. Let's hope Fertin is more responsive, or I'm back to TAD and Sierra Brooks. There is no used market for Fertins that I've been able to detect.

Thanks for the translation.

golden ratio baffles

A few days along now with the golden ratio baffles. These are it! Real full range sound. A natural concern is the drivers are so close to the floor. In fact I find that the imaging is more natural. Voices still come in at head height but sax, guitar etc come in at their lower position which is where they should be. Overall effect is very realistic imaging with natural vertical and lateral positioning of sound sources.
No need to worry about the driver position - at least not with the Fertin's.

Fertin Frquency Measurements

This is the left channel after Auto-Q function has run. Scale is +-16db. The readout shows the corrections needed to get a 0db level 20hz to 20khz so you need to invert the scale to get the actual in room measurements for left channel only. You can see that the L channel needs 9db of boost to be flat at 20khz, right channel showed 5db of boost needed. You can ignore the stuff 40hz and below because there is construction going on across the street here in Tsimshatsui (new train station) and the vibrations are being felt.
Otherwise more or less similar to the summed measurements with the SPL meter although with greater degree of accuracy esp. on top end.
Hope this completes the picture.
Brian

too late??

for someone else to get in on?

How much is it to get in - freight and all ?

Send me e-mail if you like.

I think you're right - also Liknwitz is really more a SS design and I'm a tube guy - and I didn't realize the Fertin was being used open baffle - might have noticed it when I first read the thread -

I regret to say that more and more - my brain just doesn't work as good as it used to.

I am very likely to get in if there is a benefit to a group purchase.

Financial benefit mainly, I'm talking here.

As to moving things along - I am far more likely to be able to get in on a buy within the near future - next month or so.

I am sitting on some cash at the moment - But paying a carpenter every week and buying materials - the cash runs out somewhere around the first of the year - the lower the cash or no cash - I'm less likely to be in.

Short version -

I could probably swing the wife approval factor in the near future but later on means much later on.

I am very, very lucky in my marriage. But I also know when not to push it.

Re: now the report

A few more weeks along and the drivers continue to loosen and open up. Since the sound has changed so dramatically, now even producing a touch of bass 'shudder' that wasn't there before, I did the measurements below again, same amp, position etc.

Measured frequency responses in my room using the Sheffield setup and test disk:
ambient C weighted noise 60db
filtered pink noise 1/3 octave bands
Original/today's measurement
25hz 70db/72
31.5hz 73db/75
40hz 75 db/78
50 hz 78db/80
63hz 81 db/81
80hz 85db/85
100hz 87db/87
125hz 88db/88
160hz 88db/88
200hz 87db/86
250hz 85db/84
315hz 85db/83
400hz 85db/83
500hz 82db/81
630hz 82db/82
800hz 82/82
1khz 81db/81
1K25hz 82db/80
1K6hz 81db/80
2Khz 81db/81
2K5hz 80db/83
3K15hz 79db/82
4Khz 79db/80
5Khz 81db/80
6K3hz 84db/81
8Khz 84db/83
10Khz 82db/81
12K5hz 78db/77
16Khz 73db72
20Khz 69db/70

Some furniture and boxes may not be in the same position as originally so this may be part of the picture as well.

BAFFLE

Hello,

From what I've seen so far the hinges are put on the backside.
So they fold to the center from the back,if the side panels were folded too far open the speaker would loose stability.

The center panel is kept smal in width to prevent baffle diffractions on the frontside of the speaker.

Note also the use of sand (one could also use leadshot) to deaden the wings.

Cheers,🙂
