F4 power amplifier

It would do better with a cascode....and higher negative rail voltage?

woodie ............ ya have all books in your posession ....

anyway - go to Borbely's site , download all pdfs and read few days ;

this way some questions are sorta repetitive and too wide .

read and ask if you wanna ask for clarification ; here or in any other thread you wish or in dedicated thread ........ I'm sure that always someone will answer ......

you know that I don't mean nothing wrong ; I'm really interested that you learn something new ; from my own experience , sometimes just tiny click is enough for crystalisation

I read you loud and clear, Choky.🙂

I've been researching for the last week, reading quite a bit of information. I began with the jfet BOZ, moved to the jfet BOSOZ, discovered the Aleph J, and even reviewed several of the Zen amp articles.

I have been applying myself.🙂 I'll be bread-boarding my ideas soon.

Best regards.

woodie ;

open dedicated thread ; write whatever musings you want , and I'll be glad to have fun along with you ...... that's anyway almost always the case with my musings here ....... I don't care if I am funny or dummy .....

numerous times good ppl helped me to learn something new ......

Tortilla boarding is the latest trend, even has a special thread.

Summary
The Tortilla-Board™ is a very viable and handy platform for experimenting with electronics. Assembly is easy, availability is as close as the grocer, and they are 100% bio-degradable. I highly recommend that you try a Tortilla-Board™ for your next project. It is a safe, clean, and tasty way to construct your wildest projects.

Do I need to use a cap?

If you can shift the output ac signal at 180deg with your cap, you could
apply the cap. This would be possible as nothing is impossible. But, until
you invent this, we will follow the current knowledge saying that the cap
is a short circuit for ac and, on the contrary, an open circuit for dc.

I know you already know . . .

By the way, I like your bread board very much 😀

Well, my saga continues. So, I was running the amps in and let them idle over night. The next morning I came in and smelled something hot. Not smoked, but that hot electronics smell of something close to going pop. Heatsinks are warm, fets are warm, diodes are cool. All good. Power supply caps are cooking!!😱 Fingerprints are still in tact, but there is no way you could keep your fingers on them. Well, I was using very nice Jensen 4 pole caps. I never did notice that they have an amperage rating because they actually pass all of the current through them. Oops. Well, I caught it before they went pop, but they are definitely not going to be of use in a class A amp with an amperage max of 1.8 amps.

Well, I pulled out the power supply and rebuilt it with a bulk of 2200 mf low ESR caps that I bought on ebay. They were overstocks... $30. So I now have a CLC power supply with 45000 mF before the inductors and 45000 mF after. Now everything runs cool, the hum I had earlier in my transformers is gone. I guess those Jensens were really sucking down some power as I tried to push way to much current through them. When I went to bias and adjust the offset with the new power supply, I found that the mods I made earlier had to be undone to get things back in line. I guess the power supply was the problem all along. Go figure.

So, now everything is running cool and life is grand. But I have a problem to be envious of. I have too much heat sink. With 200mV of bias, the fets are only reaching 40 degrees C. Should I increase the bias to get the magic 50 degrees C? What effects will that have?

I figure I will ask the experts before I just go ahead and crank it up.:smash:

At first I was pissed at myself, but welcome to DIY. We all make mistakes and hopefully we learn from them. At least nothing expensive went pop.:clown: I will try and post some pics tonight of my Clementine box power supply and oversize heatsinks.

Hi all,

Almost finished my f4.... almost ready for a test and guess what: my soldering iron is not strong enough for solder the big fat wires from the transformer to the bridge rectifiers and i'm out of those little white things to hook up wires (don't know what you call them English, but for the dutchies.. kroonsteentjes). I'll be on my bike tomorrow cruising around amsterdam to find me a shop that sells whatever makes it possible for me to hook up the lot and get this baby fired up 🙂
might be hard on a Sunday

anyways.. this is what i made out of it so far:

cheers

That cable should fit into your rca's might have to use a drill / dremel to open the end part a little, i had to once do that, where did you get that bright yellow rca cable ? got a picture of the tip so we can see the inside ?
