Ideally, you want to look around to see what's first, as in what is the bottleneck in sound reproduction. It's in the speakers and room acoustics.

That's why my main system is based on a miniDSP SHD and I use Dirac for room correction.
Some basic room treatment is also installed for bringing down the RT of the room.

The frustrating thing to me is I pretty much agree with @Evenharmonics that speakers / room are the most important (and very much disagree with the FUD often presented by others regarding DAC sound quality issues) but I find the way he constantly barges in to these threads extremely off-putting.
