Dear Carlos , I feel loosing the base sound with my DX-ST , does the caps has any effects to do with that .
can I replace them ( 470uf 50V ) with 470uf 63V . will that harm the output transistors?

holla, with respect to the capacitors depends on the voltage source. which generally should not be greater than 38VDC.
use 63v capacitors are easier to find and to have a margin of protection against changes in mains voltage.
no problem using 63VDC instead of 50VDC
if a channel is warming more than the other, there's something wrong with the transistor output
flow !
If you perceive your bass weak may be because you have a Dx amplifier...the standard
one has really much more bass compared to the Blame ST, the ST is shy in the bass in my feelings too.... despite flat..... despite reproduces lovely undistorted tones when the music has these tones..when the speaker can reproduce and when the home acoustics (speakers) is fine.
You can increase input condenser (capacitor) and the gain electrolitic condenser too..but i am afraid you will not have all that benefit because this is the sonic signature.... more treble than bass, despite electrically is flat..dinamically, when connected with some speakers, in some home environment, it can be perceived as weak in bass...i do think the same and i told that several times in several threads..sound is awesome, but bass is shy..read the thread since the beginning and you will confirm what i am saying (repeating).
No having a Dx amplifier (for instance) you will not perceive it shy in the bass region.... only the ones have Dx amplifier or something similar will perceive this way...we perceive comparing..without experience another unit that has more bass we do not perceive this way...majority of folks does not perceive that and complain when i say it is shy in the bass....but it is shy ONLY when compared to the Dx amplifier (or other that has the sonic signature reinforcing bass)
About the heat is because you have something wrong....check till you find a mistake.

Yes , I think there is something faulty with the parts that why got very hot transistor even just turning the amplifier without any music playing .

Also that you have the Dx amplifier....so...you will feel the lack of bass but you gonna feel the precision in that bass (not loosen, not longer, more controlled, more fidelity, less boomy, each frequency is perceived in separate considering the previous one... the ST does not mix bass tones... THD is much less, IMD also)
But i do think you should be very happy with it, because it is a superior amplifier, the best audio amplifier i have ever listened too.... even the new models almost match, but does not win .... if you are not perceiving this way...for sure there are mistakes as everybody confirms what i am saying.
Search till you find....you have a problem there...also current should be small.... less than a milivolt or a milivolt measured over the power emitter resistances....off set should be less than 25 milivolts (typically 3 mV) and no power on thump, no hot parts (Dx Blame ST), no noise and awesome audio reproduction..increasing the volume the sound comes clear and strong without distortions.... you feel that cannot go further..then you go further cranking volume up and it continues to reproduce a beautifull sound.... power is high... and you can go more than the Dx amplifier because distortion is lower..you can push it above the limits and can transfer 2dB more without problems and without fell the sound scrambled.
Dear Funky.... of course i would not release a more modern amplifier with so worse performance when compared to the first one... treble is better, separation is better, distortion is better, fidelity is better and sonic signature goes to the treble when the Dx amplifier shows emphasis in the bass.
Both amplifiers are electrically flat...but does not sound flat...no amplifier sounds flat... or very few ones does that.... all them have emphasis in some range of frequency.

I have compared the Blame ST to multiple amplifiers now and have always found the bass to be plenty. The important thing is compared to other amps that I have tested the ST always has had a more tight and controlled bass compared to others (so far anyway). The midrange and upper is also nice and smooth to listen to. Never harsh on the ears. This is maybe Carlos's intent to be more valve like?
Of course I am biased as this is a special amp to me (was the first I have made).
I recently tested the ST against an 80's Onkyo A-8067 (which had great reviews in the mid 80's) and found the mid and upper range to be extremely similar to the ST. The ST beat it in the Bass as the Onkyo was a bit sloppy and boomy which could fool some into thinking it had more bass, but in reality the volume of bass was the same in both.
We'll see if the ST still wins after I produce a couple of new projects I am working on (one being a Destroyer special). 🙂

Yes Simon, you are right in multiple ways
Majority of people does not feel bass shy alike i did....and i did because i have the Dx amplifier that is a monster in bass reproduction.... so, i have this reference, and all amplifiers that came before was felt as shy in bass.
All we feel, we perceive, is a reference...if you live with a woman that is not organized, that put a shoe inside the refrigerator, the one you open the closed and an avalanche of clothing fells above your head....then you find a woman a little bit better in organization...then you perceive, as comparison, clearly the difference in between them...also happens with amplifiers, cars and everything in our life...all is reference and comparison...better than...worse than.
I have to say, despite many guys will not agreed or believe... "the advantage of my amplifiers compared to others are not because they are many times superior".... the advantage is the method not to introduce distortions from preamplifiers, tone controls, switches, poor supplies and so on....the systems you have, even if you can switch to separate pre amplifier and power, have many protections and features that usually introduces distortions.... usually have poor supplies...small condensers as filters to reduce the production cost....even a power amplifiers in a separate mode compared to a Dx amplifier can be beated...not because the Dx amplifier models are better...but because the method used.
In other words...sounds better because has not all that trash of circuits to mess with sonics..simple is better...only three stages and go to the speaker... first stage is differential amplifiers, second is Voltage amplifier stage, and third stage is the current amplifiers, the darlington emitter follower...this is simple..almost the most simple sittuation we have in modern amplifiers.... that is the main advantage... removing protections from Onkyo, increasing filters and making comparison in the same power level..then the difference will be small...almost none...and this is due to the excellence of Doctor Self design and a little bit because of my tuning tweaking...small difference.
I use to say my amplifiers can eat everyone in the breakfast....because people insist to use the integrated amplifiers to comparison...when i suggest to plug their audio sources directly into my amplifiers input...this is the main advantage i have...the method... the way things are done
I am extremelly confident, because of the method....guys trying their monsters amplifiers filled with tenths of switches, more stages, electronic switching, relays, protections, over current and over voltage circuits, bad filters to the input circuitry, multiple stages, tone controls (increases 50 times the THD).... well..this way is easy to eat them all.....is alike to run a race and to start 60 seconds in advance related the others....reason way i laugh rolling in the floor and challenge people to eat a Dx amplifier...ahahahahahhaa!...with all that trash they have in the audio chain is impossible to beat.
To the people that wants to beat a Dx amplifier...see the picture how much i am worried about that..i am dancing with my daugther and saying:
next please!

A little bit of perception and psichology of perception
We use to appreciate things we choice, because we believe we are good to make choices..we have high levels of self respect related our own opinions, reason why people use to love everything they build....you see that almost 100 percent loves the unit they assemble and they feel sounding great...is this reality?.... more or less...because all amplifiers sounds fine..there are differences but they are not that big...some sonic signature and so on.... also because we have decided..our EGO, our proud is there..we build, we have decided..we have evaluated.... so, it must be good and we understand and we believe as good...reason why everybody says amplifiers are good...and they really are.... but...if you compare...then you will really know...if you compare blinded...if someone switches to you and you not knowing the one is A and the one is B..... just listening music at the same electrical power and this sometimes (not always) represents the same acoustic power perceived (perception, feelings, subjective evaluation).
This is done using a single speaker... and this is the weak point.... the speaker can be a benefit (advantage) to one or other amplifier.
This way you gonna know the truth..... but not perfect because this depends on your home acoustics, your speakers and your audio source quality.
Why audio source quality?
Dx amplifier is nice in the bass...then you compare it with an audio source or music program that has not bass.... Dx amplifier will loose under this condition.
Why speakers?
Well...this is obvious.... the same reason you have above.
Why acoustic environment?
The most complicated one...this is something to Acoustics Engineers to explain us...changes a lot the performance...from speaker to speaker, from place to place, from speaker position to another speaker position, if speaker is high to your ear levels, if in the corner..if distant from the wall, if in the floor or if in the ceiling..if above a metalic support, above a wooden support or above a stone support.
This way... evaluate amplifiers is not that easy...we are biased..we have faith and beliefs...that designer is good because is highly skilled in mathematics, another is good because tune by ear (listening).... this one is kind, this one is someone to trust...his amplifier are proved....many guys built..well..there are several reasons to produce influence in your evaluation....we listen what we believe.... we perceive acoustic pressure using eardrum...sensor cells send electricity to the brain..then you understand what is going on...it passes through "Censor Department", passes through" Politically correct Department", passes through the "Cheap or Expensive department"...passes through the "famous designer detecting department" passes through your "Empathy Department" and several other ways of judgement (filters) goes running till you "evaluate".
All this is basic, primary and obvious....but i know a lot of people have not think about that...we are biased and we feel that we are precise....hehehehehe...we are not.

Mr. Carlos Sir, I,ve built your DX ST amp. In the front end I run a very tight reg power supply of 45 volts +-. The output I run at 40 v0lts +-. I can tell you when I crank the volume up I feel like eating a big bloody steak and having sex at the same time. WOW am I crazy or what. Evette
