There's at least several here in Perth that visit this site and quite few more that could be willing. However, on the west coast we are closer to south Asia than those on the east coast. Could meet on the Nullabor at Eucla provided state customs don't find contraband fruit in any speaker ports etc 🙂

Bathurst would be good for me because I can visit friends but do they still have car racing at Easter? And my memory is that Bathurst is cold in Easter - class A or tubes anyone?
Catering ???
Oj any-one? just bring your own vodka,
I just happen to have a little experience in the food side of things.
terry j, if it's at your place i will help with the catering, I am a retired cook with 32 years cheffing experience and know how to do BBQ and feed a mob cheaply.
I there-fore offer my services.
Also I have a swag, I am happy to camp (dunno about the girl) Ok just asked she loooves the idea?

Well I've managed to get lucky once this year. This GTG is for next year isn't it? I'd be about due again by then.
Obiwan, I think it has to be next year,
it will take me at least that long to make something worth showing off, BUT, perhaps we should conduct a quick straw-poll on possible dates.
All I can say is that next year Late March/April is good for me.
I should mention the article from Melbourne Herald/Sun about MAC meeting on 15 August, I refer people to Connect page 4,

Re: Catering ???
That's great, I don't do 'cooking'. Girls more than welcome, no need to camp out as couples get first digs on the double beds.
Thought I'd offended you bluey, forgot to do a smiley🙂 Glad you took it OK.
Elsewhere was mentioned about races at Easter, hope there are no races (if we have it here that is) cause I'd imagine every man and his dog would make hay whilst the sun shines and jack the prices through the roof, if we are contemplating the extra accommodation at the guest house i was talking about.
Whilst we are on the topic, and if you have still got half an ear on this thread Pinkmouse, if this idea gets off the ground over here, (and lucky the Ashes aren't in contention this time around, though you will have failed DISMALLY at the rugby world cup ha ha HA) we may come back to you for hints and lessons you may have picked up after your recent (tending towards biannual) DIY event, if that's Ok with you.
Quickly ran the idea past the boss this morning (after I brazenly posted invites to everyone last night) and she's cool on it, so no need for me to humbly and pathetically (tail between legs and all that) retract anything I posted before.

I saw the article in the Herald Sun re the MAC meeting and hopefully I can make it along.......only problem is mid week and a very early start on Thursday morning makes it not so attractive! Are you a member of the MAC Ted?
Cheers,
Keith
Another Brisbanite here (Joyner actually).
Not doing much as yet as other hobbies are sucking up all my spare time and cash, but hope to be building some floor standers over the next few months.

Havn't read every thread yet so I jumped to the end to add myself to the list, might be the only one from Perth.
Can'y host anything in unit near the Swan river (Como if anybody know where that is)
Though I'd list some DIY jobs
From the beginning (from what I remember anyway)
Pair of two way speakers from 25mm MDF (19litres vented) using Jaycar 6.5" woofer (CW2107?) and there Vifa tweeter (D19)
Rebuild these into tower boxes (25litre vented) worked OK
A pair of Altronics LM3875 (3886) chip amp kit to go with Silicon chip active 3way crossover along with Jaycar preamp... never really got it to work 100% (into the cupboard it went)
Vented 45litre sub using Jaycar CS2366 car driver and bass boosted circuit (30HZ in room maybe 25)for my son along with ESP (Rod Elliott) P68 300w Amp 20,000uf per channel... this sub works really well.
Bought a 142.5 litre EBS vented Shiva 12" and used the stored LM3886 chip amps in bridged mode (app 90w per channel) to drive each coil along with Jaycar/Altronics bass boost circuit.
Got all egged up and bought more amps from ESP to retry my active cross over ... 2 off P3a's 50w amps, pair P33 DC protect, P39 soft start, P05 15v PSU 500Va t/former 6,000uf caps for tweeter, 10,000uf caps for woofer (on blank 75 x 150mm PCB with 1,000uf caps) never finished it again.
So I pulled the LM3886 chip amps out and bridged the P3a's (200w per channel) along with ESP P84 constant Q equalliser and added anyother blank PCB for two PCB with 18,000uf per channel per amp ... this really cranked the Shiva (I had cooked a coil in the Shiva before pushing the chip amps into clipping for a millisecond)
I like the Jaycar sub so much I put one in my daughter Getz in a sealed Jaycar box with 2 x 80w Jaycar amp bridged goes about 50Hz gets the car jumping.
The youngen had turned the volume up to full on my Denon 80w amp and I turn the amp on I S#@% myself " LOUD " , and killed the woofers and cooked the crossovers on my tower speakers
Just finished a set of replacement tower speakers using CSS FR125 & WR125 full range drivers in Bipole (not finished externally) these thing can put out some bass for little 4.5" drivers and they have very large sweet spot (most of the room)
may still slip a sub or something in later need some time to listen to the.
Have some pics if interested

I was a member for a short time, thinking of rejoining now that I no longer work for a pathetic national retailer and now have a living wage.

Looks like we may get something going here

Interesting. What are the details of the attached woofer?
Doug
The whole setup is only DIY in the integration sense. I didn't build the horns or box.
The woofer is an Altec 515-16G. It's in a 160 litre ported box tuned to around 45 Hz. The box originally held Tannoys of some sort. The box is far from ideal (needs to be bigger and tuned lower) but it was free and already built. Someday a proper box will happen, but I'll have to have someone else build it.
Most of the work has been in setting up the crossover and EQ. It's a slow process. The difficult work will be integrating a tweeter. Right now I'm living with the narrow and rolled off top end.
It does disassemble but even one of the horns wont fit in my car. They're 80cm in diameter and nearly 80cm long without the drivers attached.

I don't know what I would bring with me for a meet.
Toss a coin when the time comes, I guess.
