Well I'm going to throw out an open invitation for a GTG at my place in Oct 4-7 (race weekend).
Have a bunch of people turning up, mostly from Melbourne. It came about from meeting people over on SNA, and so a lot of the guys coming are into stereo but not necessarily DIY. So it wont be a diy gtg, but more a social/stereo gtg (but only my stereo if no-one brings anything else).
Beds are starting to get limited, we can easily put up twelve in beds, but most of them are pre-booked from SNA if you understand, but there are a couple left. First in best dressed on them, either from here or SNA.
However, if anyone has a tent/caravan/campervan etc then problem is solved, by now most of you would know that we have a big backyard and so putting you up is no wuckers.
So, I would love to meet (and learn from) you guys, and a warm and hearty welcome is extended to all.
You can stay for as long or as little as you'd like, go to the races or not, you get the idea.
And you get to laugh at how my speakers look, (hint, they are as fugly as I am ha ha).

Thanks for the invite Terry,
I'd love to come, but unfortunately I'll be overseas in Oct.
I'm sure you guys will have lots of fun though...
Cheers,
Pete McK

ozziozzi, you're right to be careful about the solvent vapour. I recall reading somewhere that a couple of weeks ventilation might be needed as some speakers will lose their the bonding on spiders or sorrounds if they are vunerable. Sorry can't be more specific about actual types. I'm just "erring on the side of caution".
TerryJ, we would love to come up, I will check the relavent work rosters and see what we can do, Dont reserve a bed for us, we can swag-it or bring a tent.
And yes your back yard is bigger than mine, cleaner and more tidy as well.

If there is no bed involved then no problem at all (though at the end of the day it's of course possible that they may be available depending on other confirmations).
Without going back through the thread from memory you are the chef?? Then YOU are VERY welcome indeed!!
Gee, it would be great if you (plural) could make it. How many is we?
Because the backyard is bigger it may LOOK cleaner, but looks can be deceiving ha ha.
Regrets
Terry we can't make it as we cannot get leave at that time, we are dissappointed. Next time.
You have my contact if you ever make it down this way

Re: Regrets
That's a shame Ted, thanks for letting me know asap. There will be other times I hope and yes, I do have your contact details.
Brett at least looks like he'll make it for a day outing, that will be great to meet him.
Seems that for the moment only Brisbane is a goer....so keep it up guys you may inspire elsewhere in Aus.
Never thought I'd ever barrack for Queensland in anything ha ha.

hi guys
chuffed that you remembered and are interested ha ha.
Still recovering...the few weeks before the event was hectic. We have an old place being renovated, and a few projects that were on the boil concurrently all came to a head so was mad trying to wrap it up and then clean up. For the most part it was presentable when all arrived.
Now that the list was completed, and had a BIG sleep in today (also had to get up at five a few times to watch the rugby, often the nights went past one or two in the morning) I'm wandering around all lost and don't feel like I quite know what to do. Plenty to do though, will snap out of the daze soon and get back into normal routine.
Basically it was a hoot. It is something I would recommend we look at starting from a DIY viewpoint on this forum, brisbane have had theirs and it's about time others got their finger out.
This one here of course was centred around the bathurst race, and there were three groups, those interested in cars and not stereo, those in stereo and not cars, and the group into both. However, as for all concerned it was a weekend planned for and organised for when it all came together it was an atmosphere of high spirits and great goodwill, and there was not even the slightest hint of upset or friction.
Except for Obiwan, all of the guys who came are not members of this forum and are not into DIY. That means what I say here I bet most of you DIY guys can understand and sympathise with!!
TWO days before they come, I decide to move my clean up efforts into my music room, and so get started on the rat's maze of speaker cable laying all over the floor (length was required to enable me to measure my speakers outdoors without needing to move all the amps and computers etc), so I do a cut and shut on them all. They are terminated with speakons (which I hate wiring up, I get so frustrated and angry) and of course, along the way - you guessed it - I managed to reverse the polarity somewhere!! Tri-amped, sure can rule out the bass, but WHICH of the others was it?? Time running out, still had sixteen acres to mow and shopping for fifteen odd people to do so no time to re-measure etc!!
Yep, so it happened that the whole meet, well, I had a mid driver out of phase, hanging head in shame and frustration now.
Was that all?? No, because at 10.30 on THE morning people were arriving at midday, my subs all of a sudden started bottoming out. AArrggh, there were two drivers I had always had a suspicion about, but the whole thing had been working superbly for weeks!! Yet it packs it in on THE morning??
Managed to pull the two out, one from each box, wired the remaining three in each box up in series, throw them back in, threw in a high pass on them just to be safe and managed to jury rig the whole thing quite OK.
Could this whole unbelievable shemozzle get any worse you ask??( why do you all torment me like this?? Do I have to answer??)
Kinda. On the sunday night, when 12 of the fourteen had left, using an appropriate test cd (and having ears in the LP rather than me running back and forward from the computer to the LP trying to judge changes) we nailed the phase issue on the right driver and BINGO...back singing again like it should have been from the start!
Luckily there were two here to 'vouch' for the events ha ha, cause who would believe such a cockamamy story like that eh?? " Trust me, it sounded better last week!" ha ha. "yeah right, that's what they all say!!"
Anyway that is an amusing DIY kind of story, at least I can laugh at it, the crying is over ha ha.
Photo's?? Look, Obiwan may notice this thread and hopefully post a few, I have none of my own.
What WOULD be good is a couple of the house, that way you guys could get a reality that if no other venue is available, then indeed it is totally feasible to hold a meet here. There are plenty of rooms to set up systems in, and trust me...............
There is nothing better than meeting 'the guys'!! You will have a blast.😀
Let's resurrect the intentions we all had a while ago, get off our ***** and make it happen.cool:
It is worthwhile.😀 :

Good story, sounds like my last BBQ where the amp started tp fail ( with much high pitched sqealing) half way thru the evening and I spent an hour swapping cables and crossovers to find most people had left.
I really should rejoin MAC, but Whitehorse Road is SOOooooooo far away from my place and I really need my beauty sleep these days
Regards Ted
