Having just done the UK fest in a non ideal venue, I would say go for it anyway. Just meeting other builders is inspiring and opens your mind to things you may not have considered. When you're ready, drop me a line and I'll give you a sticky thread in Everything Else for publicity.

Hi pinkmouse

how did the meet go??? Have been aware of it coming up, but must admit I haven't noticed a 'show report' with pics yet, if someone has already done a write-up could you point me to it please??

Thanks for your offer of help in this thread!

Lone Taswegian? Aren't you related to everyone in Launceston?

Actually, no. My girlfriend is from Geelong. But she lives here. So technically I am not related to everyone in Launceston. 😛

Why not host all this is Tasmania? Sure it will be a logistical nightmare, but the weather is... Well, yeah. But nice scenic place. And save me some travel expenses if something like this does go ahead 🙄

My housemate describes Victorians as 'proof Tasmanians can swim'.

If someone put together a gathering like the ETF or RMAF in Tasmania (or anywhere on the big island too), I'd happily come down there. Never been to Tasmania, but ti's somewhere I've always wanted to visit and see.

Yeah phibes, that's me. I struggled very hard to come up with a different user name!!

Can't be the same moondog tho, the SNA moondog talks in funny yoda accents all the time!

Obiwan often hangs around here too, he hasn't popped into this thread yet. Come to think of it, I've seen Jiriau here as well.

Someone made a good point, might be worthwhile going to some of the other subsections on DIY, have seen a few melbourne boys in the subwoofer forum. For all I know there are guys in valves etc etc etc.

Goulburn or Canberra are just a hop skip and a jump for me, more than happy to pop on down. More than happy to go to Newcastle too!

David, have been thinking about popping down to the ASON, might give it a little bit of preparatory planning for this weekend.

Seems a little silly that BOTH are on the same sunday???

Whatever happens, I'm unlikely to lug my (fugly) triamped beast anywhere, so if it is at someplace that isn't here you all will only have the (dubious, no, VERY dubious) pleaure of my company ha ha.

Yeah, it's hard to come up with those user names, it's a wonder I managed it!! I realised Moondog was not the same as the one at SNA just after I'd posted but it was too late....no worries, it's a good idea anyhow. I'm up for any good reason to visit back home in New South, so I'd definitely be up for it.

Hi phibes, while I use Moondog on another forum, I don't think thats me on SNA.
Anyway I would love to share a beer and a BBQ with any-one who is interested, at home here in Melbourne or in another spot, I am willing to drive, Goulburn; Newcastle even Bathurst.
I have also been known to do the odd spot of semi-lethat home brewing too
Ted

Hi Ted, I realise that you are not the same Moondog on SNA now [profiles are just too far apart and I hadn't looked at that till after I posted] Only too happy to converse, share a beer and a BBQ down here if that is practical and I'd be in a GTG with others from this forum if we could get it off the ground.

Cheers,

Keith

I do like the idea of a swap and sell, and I'm delighted with the response so far, maybe we need to find a sponsor?
And a big hall, a big Cheap hall.
terry j, Bathurst is beginning to look good to me, what would you need from the rest of us to act as host, and is Easter a possibility??
Ted

Just thinking about the concept here and my suggestion of Goulburn.

I have some contacts locally and I think I could get the local RSL rooms (we use them for radio Club meetings for pretty much nothing), they are very nice too. Accomodation I could get a good deal on as I have a mate who owns a local motel. I think I could even get some presenters on a few topics.

Easter would not work in Goulburn though as everything is pretty much booked out way ahead for Wakefield Park Car races.

I could also probably get access to the local community college facility really cheap, it is a lovely historic building, I'm the president so that would help.

I could also organise a tour of local historic attractions and a meal at one of the oldest brewaries (if not the oldest) in Australia. I have a retired audio tech friend who could probably put in some time to organise a few things though I have not mentioned this to him yet.

I'd also be interested in a audio GTG at Bathurst or Goulburn. Around Easter would give me some time and incentive to get some projects happening to bring, and amp and my 'rears' as described in my thread yesterday.

Hi Ted and the gang (as in the ted mulry gang, yes I know, pathetic)

look I'm totally cool on having it here. We have an old place but even as it stands we have beds available for around twelve people, however the caveat on that is that some of them are double beds, so unless people are bringing girlfriends/boyfriends that may not work too well and some lucky people will get a double bed to themselves! In ant case it won't be hard to rustle up extra matresses, if people bring their own pillows etc.

We are on sixteen acres so camping is a very easy thing to accommodate🙂

However, there is a guest house only a short drunken stumble about 200m away, which I have no idea how much it would cost. I can check it out and find out how many it sleeps, and if we divide that cost between all of us (maybe including those that stay here) then it becomes all that more affordable.

After reading the feedback on the UK meet, it seems one of the biggest problems is the room/venue acoustics. My own music room is about 9m by 6m by 5m high, and I have an identical room opposite that would accommodate either a BIG setup someone may have, or a couple of little ones. We have another room about 8m by 5m for yet another setup, and of course the guesthouse should have a couple of suitable rooms if we wanted to 'split' the scene.

When is easter??april isn't it? I guess given the distances involved we would be foolish to only have, for example, a one day shindig. A long weekend might even be the go, get a spit in etc etc and food is handled.

Also from the UK meet, it would be good if valve amps, pc based systems or whatever would turn up, has a similar thread been started on any of the other sub-forums?

Having said all that, I'm not in any way pushing for it to be here, am more than willing to travel, albeit probably without my setup as quite frankly it would be a pain in the proverbial, nahh, just talked myself into taking it if needs be!

Anyway, as noted earlier, the response does seem positive doesn't it!!
