Dedicated PSU for DEQ/DCX2496

Hi,
Problemse comes ONLY from TNT as usual unfortunatly!
But today Pilgham did not help me to change the way to deliver from TNT: actually I loose 2x 1/2 days working and lot of time and phone money!
With post office there is also tracking and insurance and 300€ is not that much for sending...
Whatever, I was waiting for 10 days now for delivery but I WILL GO in vacation tomorrow! whatever the kit is located 🙂
Trust me, I receive around 150 packs this year with never such trubble;Pilgham SHOULD CHANGE TNT for a better company serious and responsible!
I will claim to get money back on this;
See u in 3 weeks and onother one to prepare the PSU!

Well Fred, the story I get from this side is quite different. I understand you asked Pilgham to contact TNT to change the delivery, which of course is impossible; only the receiver can do that. So, there seem to be different sides to your story, and I would propose not to discuss this at this forum.

Have a good vacation.

By the way you talk about that here, let me say you completly wrong😛lease contact yourself directly TNT and you'll understand!
ONLY the SENDER with TNT can change something for delivery!!!
and Pilgham did not after 10 days...and forget to put my phone number on the sending forme as It is usually to do!

Hi all,

I'm looking for an original switch-mode power supply from a DCX2496 (I
believe the DEQ2496 uses the same as well). Since so many of you have
replaced them with a linear supply, anybody willing to part with the
original supply?

tia,

Jan Didden

I've may be have one in spare as I'm modifing a DEQ for someone else. I should ask him, if I can send it to you. You don't prefer to add a linear PSU? It's black and white compared.

Soon available... the miniVreg 5v. A low noise regulator to replace the LM7805 on the DEQ and DCX dsp board. 😉

Input: 6-15v
Output: 5v
Power: 400mA

Same size as a TO220 and it can be placed on an heatsink.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Hi Steff,

Looks nice. How is the heat from the reg transferred to the copper area at the back?

With 2 via. I filled in the two via with solders (should stay flat). Seems to work fine.

OK, just curious, I haven't used these type of regs yet, but maybe in the future. So this is the reg that gets the 8.8V and regs it to 5V, right? What's the dissipation you think?
Does this chip have a metal back or is the heat transferred through the pins to the copper?

Yes, for the analog 5v (deq).

In fact, I've not yet tested it inside the DEQ. I currently run it on a separated psu with a load resistor at output. First test show that for up to 150mA, no need of heat sink. A small heat sink can also be stick on the back or you can use a regular TO220 heatsink with a metal clip. No screw as well. Specs are below my scope range. I only have a TDS1002.

The LT1763 is a regular SOIC-8 chip without metal part under. Heat is transferred through pins. The inductor can handle up to 450mA. The regulator, 500mA.

I'll propose a complete kit in around 2 weeks. I'm waiting for small boxes to put it, and I'm too busy to launch it right now.

Let me share this experience so to save someone time and frustration. I was planning to do Stephan's linear PSU upgrade on my DCX 2496,only for digital portion which is 5V, 3.3V and 9V.

When I looked at schematic I didn't see anywhere that 15 V is needed for digital portion. I have passive analogue out and I do not need 15V supply for that. I got Stephane's boards, ordered parts and everything was nice and dandy.

By the way, it is worth mentioning that this is one of the best board and info I have seen around. Board is of excellent quality, BOM supplied by Steph is right on and easy to order since he has supplied part numbers for several suppliers. Thank you Steph.

Well I have just completed assembly, made new holes for the board and transformer and everything was fitting perfectly. Voltages are right on, and I was excited to test it in the unit. Unfortunately, when I tried it my display was off. I went crazy thinking that I damaged something in the process of assembly, but I couldn't find anything. I went back to schematics and I realized that screen uses 15V. Now I have to see what are my options since I will need the second transformer, order parts...

Hope this saves some time to someone who had similar needs - only digital upgrade. Even with digital only you will need 15V supply.

stef1777 have you any thoughts of selling the AK4396 DAC as theres been reports of succes with it,in DCX?🙂

350€ minimum of order to get AK4396 from the French suppliers. allamerica.com don't have it in stock.

Some guys claims to have installed AK4395 inside the DCX but when I asked for pictures -> nothing. And they was not aware that AK4395 works only with digital 5v... and the DCX play 3.3v...

May be next year, I'll try to get sample but I'm not sure that something better can be ear upgrading DAC.

Yes,it would have beed nice with pictures, showing it,maybe some measurements.

I will post pictures later today when I get to my work space to make one. I had dead AK4393 DAC and I was able to get few AK4396 samples. I have exchanged that one and left others for now, but also so I could do some AB test listening. I didn't have a chance to do much listening but what was coming as immediate and clear improvement was in the highs. They are cleaner and more defined but not edgy, just clean and relaxed. I am planning to exchange them all in the main DCX and to do some more listening.

Hello Stephane, I am not aware of that information. Could you please elaborate more on that. Here is the insert from the spec sheet for 4393:
