I definitely look forward to seeing your progress. I might have to try this on my
broken pair as well.
Good luck.

Given they are only 39 US$ each, already have the PCB, the ready to mount back panel , terminals, even wiring ready to plug-in at the speaker itself, personally I would buy the originals in a jiffy.
Doubt you save money after adding all costs.
In general the "electronics" part is the cheapest one, the "mechanicals" being the most expensive and inconvenient, by far.
Of course, the decision is yours.
And it guaranteed fits your speakers.
As of finding which is which, touch each speaker terminal pair with a 9V battery, tweeter will "click click", woofer will "thump thump"

For the dac/amp - would you get separate ones (e.g. the iFi ZEN DAC V2 with any AMP) or are there any combos worth having a look?
I prefer not to put all my eggs in one basket so favour the separate DAC/amp route.
The Rega io is a 5 star recommended amp which is compact and suitable for desktop use. Check specs for compatability with the Zen.

I think I need something more budget friendly ... is there anything?

But those are only for headphones I guess, right?
The output of the Zen DAC can be switched between fixed and variable, meaning the iFi can operate as a digital preamp if you so wish.
That means you can connect it to a power amplifier or to an integrated amplifier.
This is a diy forum and I don't claim to be knowledgeable about ready made equipment.
If your budget is tight, you could go down the second hand route or perhaps an amp like this would fit your requirements:
2 Channel Amplifier Stereo Audio Amp Mini Hi-Fi Class D Integrated TPA3116 Amp for Home Speakers 50W x 2, with 19V 4.74A Power Supply - Fosi Audio V1.0B Black: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

One more thing, in the diagram, what's L1 and what's C1? I'm not familiar with the software or those terms 😉
L is the inductor (the coil) which goes in series with the woofer.
C is the capacitor which goes in series with the tweeter.
C is the capacitor which goes in series with the tweeter.
Thank you very much! All clear now 😉
Now thinking about it, it makes sense how it fits together 😉
