I want to build Micheag's tube IV, but the IXTP08N50D2 Mosfet is out of stock. Is there an alternative Mosfet I can use in its place?
These will do, I had the same problem -

People have spoken about upgrading the heatsink on the JLSounds board.

I am guessing that a small stamped type such as this one, is going to be not much of an upgrade if any?

Can anybody offer any recommendations or advice?
How bad does it overheat? I would have thought Lorien has done the thinking on this.
Don't overthink it, Just add more metal to the existing heatsink using thermal tape.

Mouser currently has these in stock( TO220) ; IXTP01N100D , IXTP02N50D , DN2540N5-G . IXTP02N50D would be the best choice 😉 .I want to build Micheag's tube IV, but the IXTP08N50D2 Mosfet is out of stock. Is there an alternative Mosfet I can use in its place?
It's not a depletion mosfet so it certainly won't work. In that case the full supply voltage might reach the anode which can be dangerous for the tube (Russian tubes can withstand even that, tested with fake DN2540 🤣 ) .

Yes 😉@grunf damn it, I have a couple of DN2540 in the stash luckily, these will be ok?
but IXTP..... are still better, it's not a problem to change later.
I use that in a shunt regulator for CCS where the current is almost 500mA so it makes no sense in this case. The IXTP02N50D I mentioned in the above post is a good choice.
Maybe this one https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/588-CSM221-12AEPeople have spoken about upgrading the heatsink on the JLSounds board.

If your B+ at input is less than 300V the DN2540 are fine for such a tube. The IXTP are refinments, buy it after if you are happy with what you hear. I find they exagerate too with the price of those mosfet. I have burned some and I cried ! Burned two J310 cried again !
@grunf - £12 for two mosfets, come on on dude... I will have to wait until I can build a farnell order to get the original spec devices.
Before inserting the chips, I check whether all the voltages are of the appropriate value relative to GND and present in the appropriate places. I abuse the power supplies themselves before that, with resistors.
SJ3 need to be closed. What is the best way to test dac with bench psu just to make sure everything is ok before I plug opamps and dac chip?
Also : The upper Riv seems not in the hole towards the dac chip side, but perhaps this is the photograph, hard to see !
Always check twice the capacitors position to avoid shorts before switching on....
Check the output of your reg before connecting them to the dac board, then as already inputed : check on the power vias relative to Vref the voltage numbers (without the ICs) when connected to the dac board.
