Covers that are arguably better than the originals:

my $0.02...

Into the void by Kyuss (Black Sabbath)

Louie Louie by The Kingsmen (Richard Berry)

Easy by Faith No More (The Commodores)

Louie Louie is kinda obvious, but i have to point out that the Kingsmens version is miles ahead of any other version i've heard(including Toots and the Maytals, the Wailers etc.).

Into the void might be controversial (?) but i feel the sheer power of Kyuss's version tips the scale. That lineup of Kyuss is something else. Scott, Josh and Alfredo playing together as if they were trying to tear down your house with sound.

Easy is kind of funny beacuse it's almost a carbon-copy, but i feel the Fatih No More version has that little extra something.

Easy by the Commidores, I Started a Joke by the BeeGees, Lets Lynch the Landlord by the Dead Kennedys, War Pigs by Black Sabbath, all covered by Faith No More.

Live and Let Die by Wings and Hair of the Dog covered by Guns N' Roses.

Fortune Teller and Happy Jack covered by the WHO.

Tuesdays Gone, Turn the Page, So What? all covered by Metallica.

Fame and the Immigrant Song covered by the Infectious Grooves.

There are soo many good covers that it is impossible to list them all.😎 :smash:

Whoa, got me on one. The Who's Happy Jack was a cover? Who originally wrote/performed it? (ignore the pun)

You're quite correct: who originally wrote/performed it. According to the sleeve of Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy, it's one of Pete Townshend's.

F. Zappa's cover of Stairway to Heaven is just as tedious as the original up til the guitar solo, which he arranged for a fat brass section to replicate not only note for note but bend for bend and wiggle for wiggle. Genius.

OT: Surfin' Bird was covered by the Cramps and the Ramones, and both versions were the equal (but different) of the original by the Trashmen.

'I could play Stairway to Heaven when I was fourteen. Jimmy Page didn't write it til he was twenty one. I think that says something'

😕

Please, tell us.

I dunno if this was already mentioned, but one of my favorites is Sarah McLachlan's cover of Radiohead's "Climbing Up the Walls"

Easy by Faith No More
Ditto!

And I like Metallica's version of "Whiskey in the jar" better than the original (Thin Lizzy?)

So many more, but i'm having a brainfart at the moment!

Ohh! Johnnie Cash - "Hurt" Not because I liked his version any more or less,Just that I was shocked that he did a cover of NIN!

"Happy Talk" - Captain Sensible ( South Pacific)

" A Certain Girl" - Warren Zevon

"Smoke, Smoke, Smoke That Cigarette" Commander Cody

" You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet"- 19 Wheels

"When Will I Be Loved" Linda Ronstadt

"Fire"and " Someday, Someway"- Robert Gordon

"Crossroads"- Cream

anybody post this already?

"Sunday Morning Comin' Down"

Original: Kris Kristofferson

Covered by: The Man in Black - Johnny Cash, The Handsome Family, and Crooked Fingers.

Not that the original was horrible, but Johnny gave the song a bit more feeling. My favorite version of the four is actually The Handsome Family's.

If you haven't heard them, and you happen to like dark ballads delivered with a bittersweet twang and sorrow, you should check em' out:

Live and let die - covered by Guns 'n' roses

I'm not dead yet..and already I'm turning in my grave.

Gn'R's version: Awful,awful, awful,awful,awful,awful,awful,awful..then..gross..gross..gross..and finally..sickening......
and has nothing to do with the spirit and intent of the original.

yuck.

I know my post is a bit 'over the top'.. 🙂 but Gn'R's version is just plain---- bad.

You guys have GOT.. I mean... JUST HAVE TO find and download the AC/DC songs re-done by:
