Covers that are arguably better than the originals:

Stairways to Heaven by various artists. Players are Kate Ceberano And The Ministry Of Fun, John Paul Young, Pardon Me Boy, Rolf Harris, The Australian Doors Show, Sandra Hahn And Michael Turkic, Robyne Dunn, Neil Pepper (Elvis), The Rock Lobsters, The Beatnix, Vegimite Reggae and Leonard Teale. It's not quite the same as watching the original episodes waiting for the next incarnation of the song to be performed.

This CD features 12 versions of "Stairway to Heaven". They were recorded for the Australian talk show "The Money or The Gun", hosted by Andrew Denton, which ended every episode with a different guest artist performing that song. Lots of different kinds of styles are featured here. Some of the styles are: big band, Doors tribute band, Elvis impersonator, B-52s cover band, opera, Beatles cover band, reggae and spoken word.

Heroes by Blondie on the B-side of the Atomic single - was a cracker on the 12" 45...

McLean & McLean's cover of "Delta Dawn".
Or their cover of "The Fox Went to Town".

Only a Canadian could say that with a straight face.

If only you knew the lyrics...............

Use google, find them, but only if you have a, uhm... open mind.

Both Marvin Gaye's (1968) and Creedence's (1970) covers of "I Heard it through the Grapevine" are much better than the original Gladys Knight and the Pips 1967 version.

I prefer the original, it has flair, drive, although Marvin Gaye's is great in its way, the CCR version puts me to sleep however with its what, 10 minute runtime.

Stuff I've downloaded that I would prefer to the original if the quality were up to snuff
-------Coldplay, Live-You only live twice, originally by Nancy Sinatra for the movie, luv the original too though
-------Radiohead, Live-Comfortably Numb, I love it because of the guitar work, only version I found cuts off 2/3 of the way through the track:crying:

Others:
Emmylou Harris Live at the Ryman Auditorium---Covers Guitar Town and Lodi, Really nice cd
Crazy-patsy cline covers willie nelson, I know obvious
You were always on my mind-Elvis covers willie, I love Elvis
Me and Bobby Mcgee-Janis does Kristofferson, obvious again

You go to my head--Ella Fitzgerald live with the Duke, found this on an obscure late night piano jazz cd, sounds fantastic, originally released by Holliday or someone else a LONG TIME AGO
Dust my Blues--Elmore James covers Robert Johnson's dust my broom
Nirvana covering meat puppets and leadbelly? on their unplugged album, with the assistance of the meat puppets themselves so maybe that doesn't count, anyway my girl where did you sleep last night was a pretty amazing performance by mister cobain

Sinead O'Connor--Love Hurts, Nazareth, I've become a real sinead fan and recommend her 'retirement" double cd, or the later I'm not retired anymore reggae disc, she's fantastic
Celine Dion-Immortality, BeeGee song, again the BG's are on this record, she's easy to diss but I like her in small doses
Mary had a little Lamb-Stevie Ray Vaughn, originally Buddy Guy, originally originally a nursery rhyme

Worst cover to go mainstream??? Big yellow taxi-Counting Crows:yuck:
