Water is pollution ? (hydrogen fuel)Of course every rocket essentially drops a crap load of pollution on us as it leaves the planet.
They just need to build a space elevator. Enough of rich azzoles' flyin' their phallus's out to space.
They need to get large earth orbit structures and mine the moon WAY before going to Mars !
I think Elon has the "Mars fetish" to capture the imagination and get funding.
PS - Fix the earth first. Realistically , to little too late - we will go "boom" before Elon escapes.
Elon would most likely send many to their deaths , before he ever travelled off planet.

Google "Hypergolic" rocket fuels, especially "Hydrazine", China and Russia still use these propellants in some of their rockets, very, very, very bad exhaust and especially when one explodes and sends Hydrazine over a wide area, instantly deadly to plant and wildlife, as well as people
Sitting on a Hydrazine couch (foam) , wearing Hydrazine clothes. Once it burns , turns into N-H and ammoniums.
Most rocket fuels are Hydrogen (space shuttle). Musk (space X) uses methane or kerosene - he ain't too green !
They still use Hydrazine for maneuvering. Weapons use Hydrazine + all sorts of petro mixes RP-XX.... Some use solid.

I don't think anything large enough to head to Mars will be using just hydrogen and oxygen as fuel. Even the space shuttle hadWater is pollution ? (hydrogen fuel)
solid rocket boosters The chemistry of the Space Shuttle's solid rocket boosters primarily involved a mixture of ammonium perchlorate (oxidizer) and aluminum powder (fuel), with a binder like polybutadiene acrylonitrile (PBAN) holding the components together, creating a propellant commonly called "ammonium perchlorate composite propellant

Wouldn't need much, given the short life expectancy....a life supply of Viagra and Courvosier.
I think humans will ultimately get around the solar system to mine and do stuff. But the idea we will have colonies on Mars seems fanciful. Gravity played and does play a huge role in shaping the evolution and physical development of Earth bound organisms. Imagine being conceived and born and raised on Mars. Your bone density, muscle strength etc will all be so compromised that coming back to Earth at some point is out of the question. Then there’s the radiation issue. I read somewhere that the top 150mm of the surface of Mars is sterile. So anyone living there has to be in a shielded environment or underground.
A far more likely scenario is that Mars in the distant future is populated by an army of robots that mine it, do science etc. Humans may go there to make supervisory visits or get a project going, but permanent habitation, unless we are trying to create a parallel species, seems ‘Muskoidial’ ie fanciful nonsense. If we want humans to settle another planet, it will have to have very similar gravity and a magnetosphere, or be very cold so it can hang onto its atmosphere.
Which brings me to aliens and a potential alien invasion. Why would aliens try to take over a living, populated planet full of belligerent warmongering bipedals and run the risk of all sorts of problems like disease, possible deaths on their side and massive damage to their hardware? Surely it would be much easier to send robots to a dead planet and just mine it for what they needed? Zero risk and zero interference from anything. Just help themselves and when done, move on.

What if asteroid comes and destroys earth, who the robots serve then? Same for aliens, they would likely spread out to increase likelihood of long term survival. First into local solar system, then to another, then to another galaxy, to survive long time spans before some catastrophy wipes all out. It shortsightedness not to strive for it now when it is still possible, so go Elon! Only public figure whose vision spans further than their own nose, and it's not just talk but actively making it happen. Perhaps the colony would not succeed, but still there is some legwork done, like lowering price and speed to get stuff to orbit, gaining data and improving technology which eventually is required to get anywhere from here. Reaching out from solar system would need further science advancement, everything is too far for humans to travel at current speeds. How about AI and robots with backpacks full of human genome to reach some more distant places? Or advancements in physics beyond general relativity that would enable long span travel in short time?
It is arguable though, that we should put all our efforts to savior this planet before reach out, but no one can do that, as most people are selfish and short sighted and prioritize short term gains over long term gains taking advantage on the planet and everything that lives on it. Then there are some lunatics "the world elite" who plan to reduce population and manipulate climate for planet survival, see the World Economic Forum and their future plans. It's crazy, world and people are crazy so likely deserve to be short lived in an universal scale. I hope aliens come and get people to their senses, currently we are stuck on this lonely planet and it will kill us if we continue raping it, we all should care about this stuff, not for ourselves but for the species.

It is a narrative soundtrack of the movie, with Richard Burton as the Journalist doing most of the narration. It is a two album set with a neat insert with pictures of various settings.I never knew there was a music version of War of the Worlds, I need to find that.

and maybe move all of the manufacturing that pollutes our environment there, run by robots as you suggest. It would create a whole new transportation industry as well.A far more likely scenario is that Mars in the distant future is populated by an army of robots that mine it, do science etc. Humans may go there to make supervisory visits or get a project going,
This would give real meaning to the idea that Mars exploration is a worthwhile endeavor, not just simply for the purpose of exercising our ingenuity.

For my money certainly one of the better space operas in recent memory.I suspect the Muskoids have been watching The Expanse and dreaming too much😂
Yes, took notice of zero g for once in a Sci-Fi and nothing as silly as FTL, blink drives😂 etc.For my money certainly one of the better space operas in recent memory.
I'm a recent (partial?) defector from the electrons traveling through vacuum contingent so I need to reinvent the wheel... Lateral mosfets are new to me. 😀 I do conventional EE stuff in my day job and dream of traveling around the solar system. 🤣 I saw the premier of 2001 A Space Odyssey as a 10 yr old child here in Boston, had nightmares for weeks. It seemed reasonable at the time that we would have a world similar to that portrayed in the movie, imagine my disappointment. 😆Not another Lateral Mosfet design. do something new. How about a Horizonal Mosfet. This is the lounge, no serious discussion allowed while we are drinking, it leads to lounge fights.
I want to try them , too. modify my Wolverine to run them. No Vbe - cool.Lateral mosfets are new to me

Musk’s vision is as far as he can see to the next buck or government contract. Let’s not wear any rose tinted spectacles when we talk about him. A smart businessman no doubt, but a deeply flawed individual with a particular sensitivity to any criticism. What if asteroid comes and destroys earth, who the robots serve then? I hear musk was chosen to be our next "tech Czar" oh boy !
the right planets or the right human species?I’m not against the human species colonising other planets. Let’s just choose the right ones.
