Sounds interesting !
Hi Russell ,
send me a link to find you ... I cant really afford to build another amp . The PII is on the agenda ... and the DAC ongoing ...
I was thinking of building an external PSU for my Bryston .. My brother gave it to me - he lives in Canada .. 110 AC
It was built in 1987 and sound magical . It will do me for the immediate future.
I need to find the schematic for it !
Rich
I keep thinking of a Burning Amp 2 with cascoded front end and higher rails......but not until the F-5X of EVULs is done, come on over to that thread!

OH, I wont be building the BA-2 for a while, so there isnt a link yet.
The next project to finish is the pumpkin and Pearl 2. Of course, as soon as the design team and EVUL get boards ready, efforts will be redirected to the balanced F-5. Its usually somewhere near the top in this Pass Amps forum.
Is this what you meant? Again, very nice job on the Aleph. for a first build you knocked one out of the park!

Hi Russell ,
the F5 seems a very popular quest . I have nt heard one . There are a couple of gents building them here in the UK . Ill try and get an audition when there complete .
I have the Dac kit here ready to start .. Just need to ask a few more questions before I start .
I will need to build a new Pre amp though. The Dac is balanced and so it my amp . The Bryston has only balance out and no balanced input so its life in the main system is short lived .
I have got a bit more confidence now and look forward to building more kit.
There are some great people here , It reminds me of our old haunt as far as support that goes .
And thanks for the compliment . I very proud of the Aleph and love the sound of it .
Ill be watching !

HELP ........ After 3 months of faultless service .... one side of my amp has died..... Can someone help .... what is the best way to find the fault ...? Is it best to pull the enitire side out ? have a 30 VDC supply to use . Is there an strategy that you have perfected over the years that would help me .... ?
Rich
Rich
PSU is fine . I'm getting 27.36 VDC across the bloody output .... Could be a lot worse.

Gutted to hear that. I suppose it's the woofer that got dead?
Not riffing on your pain, but here's a vision of the future:
active crossover
that pair of F5's you mentioned
driving your homemade open baffle speakers bi-amped with the Aleph and the 5's
all financed by the sale of your current speakers. Nice bit of bodging to be done there.
Oh, and a DC protection circuit too 🙁

No speaker damage ... I'd be crying too hard to type if that had been the case .
I meant, to fry a speaker would have been really bad news.

Phew, glad speaker ok, I thought you were displaying remarkable fortitude in the circumstances 🙂
I think your amp is Class A, so question #1 would be, is it still drawing lots of current and heating up?

as it looks like I will need to rebuild one channel of my Aleph 30 I have been thinking of upgrading it .
I'm looking for suggestions that will make use of the heat sinks , rated at 150 watts each and rails of 30 VDC .
Ideas please ?

Hi,
It seems the power supply took a thrashing ... I have the boards from Chipamp.com ... Has anyone got a schematic and BOM / parts list for them .
I was using the original Jim's chinese boards that had to be botched to make work , so this is probably a good thing 🙂
Thank you , Rich
