Those look very cool! I`m impressed with the creativity in this tread.
Peter any news on your new cd pro? Does the spring damped one sound any better or worse?

Btw, Coulomb How did u treat the copper? With a blank lacquer or something? Else it will oxide quite fast.

Why do you want to install Microsoft Windows on your CD-PRO2?

Ah I get it.. took me a while, 🙂
I just needed a worthless disc to ensure proper clearance in my machining of the top cover.
Thanks to all for the applause. I hope to post a photo assay once it is competed, I figure about another month should do it.

I will finish it with Clear lacquer of spray it black, I have not decided yet. The Copper shielding will not be visible once the drive is installed anyway. The backside was sealed to the Acrylic with Contact cement so it will not oxidise either.

There were a couple of bugs in the pcb, relating to the lcd (wrong potentiometer footprint and wrong staggering of pins), and I will fix these issues for the next board run.

Looks good but it seems that you should fit a new clock!
Why would I need a new clock? The clock isn't tied to the audio circuitry. It is just a normal 10 Mhz crystal...

Looks good Brian, try not drinking until after you attack your boards with a power saw next time! 🙂
I thought the clock question originally was intended for the TDA1541A circuit, as such is there an improvement to be made by reclocking the DAC. I thought the idea was to reclock the receiver in a DAC, as you are using the I2s interface is there an upside to reclocking the CDPRO or the TDA1541A?
I know I would like to reclock the DC servo circuit on the CD PRO, but alas I am not sure how to accomplish this. There is supposed to be an external reclock option available on future product from Philips.

This thread explains pretty well how to replace internal clock on CD-pro board http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17194&highlight=

It's not clear whether the servo motor sync circuit is driven from this clock. Are we assuming it is Peter?

I had a nice straight cut with the jig saw, that was 1/4" from edge, and I trimmed it with the shear, but it only has a 6" cutting surface, so I had to do it twice and the edges didn't line up... not as issue, since it won't be seen inside the player.

I have no clue about that and never seen anybody concerned much about it either😉
I would think, that the whole servo motor assembly has enough internal mechanical damping and delay so any usual jitter of the control clock would not result in any reduced performance. This is irrelevant.
So if you are using the I2s output, why bother with an external clock for the CDPRO?

Hi Anthony, because it improves the sound! See the link provided by Peter Daniel.
