I am about to undertake and install the new chip kindly donated by andy.
I will leave the computer on and let you know in 30mins or so.
OH MY GOOD GOD its fixed its fixed, and sounds amazing, just the DRAM chip after all.
Thank you thank you to everyone that has helped me on this one, and given me the confidence to carry on.
Especially ANDY for the chips and Mooly for not giving up.
Now, time to sit back and listen, well for a few weeks, until I want to upgrade it, which now I feel I can for sure as before asking you guys for your help I would have not considered it.
THANK YOU TO ALL
I want to buy you all a beer.......

Moral of the story... it's never the big IC's
A great result... and not possible without Andy coming up with the parts.
The power of the DIY forum... another great success story.
And your help Mooly, for which I have learnt a great deal indeed, I have learnt a great deal.
Now off to me music.
See you in a few weeks
As a matter of interest, I took the chips of an old board which I think was a Marantz or it could have been a Philips CD 6xx series I think.
It looked identical to the one in the photos.
Andy
