Oh I forgot to mention that MKT type capacitors with silver terminations and cat5 leads suspended with stand-offs give better fan sound-stage, whilst maintaining the desirable fan harmonics with low jitter......
please don't send me to Texas.

The resistor is there to discharge the capacitor. Without it the capacitors will hold their charge indefinately. In Australia this charge could be as high as 240 * 1.414 = 339 volts = ouch.
The RMS current through this resistor is the mains voltage / resistor.
I.e. in Australia with a 220k resistor it is 240 / 220,000 = 1.1mA.
Note that many resistors are not rated to this high a voltage so I use 2 x 120k in series.
Cheers

What a great lesson covering the information I already knew but wasn't bright enough to connect together. 🙄

Penjim, very nicely done amp. Could anyone tell me how much the board measures?
Also, with the original +/- 70V supplies and 8 output transistors, will the bipolar amp be able to drive a 4 ohm suboofer?

The PCB measures 276.9mm x 93.3mm.
With 70 volt rails and with the specified transistors (or similar) it will drive a 4 ohm load all day, provided there is good heatsinking and ventilation.

Thanks Quasi. You may remember I built the NMOS200 sometime back. My amp did not work and I was never able to find out what mistake I made. I thought I would build something else now to power my subwoofers.

Sorry to hear that Vivek, there are plenty of working Nmos200's out there. Never mind, "Brother of Quasi" is a better amp in my opinion but a little more work to put together.

I would like to build an eight channel amp...I have some MJL21193-MJL21193 available. I was thinking of making a pcb layout for the bipolar quasi for the TO-247 package using (2) MJL21193 and (2) MJL21194 output per board. Would 4 output devices be suitable for +/- 45 volt rails ? How about +/- 55 volts rails ? Would I need to change any resistors (like on the NMOS200 for different rail voltages)? My other option might be to redesign the Leach TIM amp for TO-247 outputs. Thanks for all the help!

build a one channel amp as this first project get it working. Test it, listen to it. See how well it drives your speakers then decide if you want an eight channel amp.
Hi Folks,
I will be away for about 7 days attending a conference in Phuket -Thailand. Please don't feel sorry for me, I had it coming. Of course if any fellow DIY'ers happen to be in Phuket over the next week send me an email and I'll give you some details. There will not be any posts from me during this time.
Try not to burn yourselves with your soldering irons and I'll try not to burn myself in the sun.
Cheers

Hi Quasi,
I wish I will be there to see you personally in Thailand. But I will be there on year end.
My amp worked. Thanks for help
But now I need to wind a transformer for me 500VA with 55 0 55. Can I do that? or should I go to the market and buy one?
Anybody please give advice ?

Re: Wasim
hey wasim i also need the same rating transformer for my amp.
but dont know what wire , core size and turns to wind . if you make your transformer yourself please do help me to

buy a 500VA 50-0,50-0Vac transformer.
Add 10% more secondary turns using the same diameter enameled copper wire. 1.4mm diameter has probably been used. But measure it to check.

Hi Andrew T.
Thanks for the reply. This time I will buy a Transformer 55 0 55 0 500VA. But if you can send me some pictorial explanation about the transformer winding. That would be a great help.
I am also buying a core for winding my own transformer. I would love to do that. I require two 500VA 55 0 55 0 transformers and I want to wind the other one.

Hi ravslanka
As soon as I do that I will share with you. If you want calculations of the primary and secondary turns then go to this site they have so many calculators you can calculate the wire thickness and the turns etc. I hope this will help you

My Version!!
Hi,
Hi Quasi 🙂 , me and my buddy are building this version of the Amp ! he has already communicated the same with you !
As you had asked Am attaching the pics of the PCB ! Please comment on that !
Also we were wondering as which would be a perfect match for this ?? could please help Us out 😉 ?
I've built the Mos version and we compared it with many other amps ! and Am glad to inform you that it kicked butts of all the one's we compared
!!
