Brilliancy in Sport, Your favourite moments

Beyond my ability too...
Ivanchuk never lost to either Kasparov, Anand or Carlsen...not a single game in 30 years...he lost to lot of unknown players , but not to any world champions...only Kramnik put him some serious problems out of all ex world champions .Yet he only lost on time , very rarely because of tactical mistakes. He's probably the best tactical player of the last 30 years.

But, TBH, cruel but true, my dad probably got it right in saying Centre-forward Cyrille Regis was musclebound, overweight and slow.

Your believe in your dad is almost endearing but I still think Johan Cruyff knew a LOT more about football. Besides Cyrille's cousin John could certainly not be described as slow either.

The 3rd guy Laurie Cunningham was the first ever British player to be signed by Real Madrid.

I am still reeling from Ivanchuk's Chess victory over Carlsen TBH. Only severely intellectual Sportsmen will get the brilliance of his victory.

Carlsen vs Ivanchuk || Beautiful Game || Blitz Chess - YouTube

Started with his defeated body posture suggesting to Carlsen it was an easy day. Because you only play as well as your opponent. I used to pill this stunt myself. Talkin' about Chess "Prawns" an "Horsies" just to lure my opponent into underestimating me!

Anyhow, main event today is the housewife's favourite jockey, Italian Frankie Dettori.

He skirted UK quarantine rules and won big on Mishriff:

Followed it up with a run on Palace Pier:

If he's got a third French runner tomorrow, I am on it. 😀

well..ivanchuk won the greatest chess contest ever , the Linearis...carlsen is a prodigy child that holds the world title for about 8 years, but he's already having problems with another prodigy child while ivanchuk was always a genius and you can't ignore a genius especially if he's playing chess for over 50 years...

I really ought to start playing this Chess Sport again, dreamth. I always enjoyed the Sicilian Dragon. The most aggressive reply by Black.

Like Ronnie O'Sullivan, I find the dearth of good opponents depressing. 😱

AFAIK. I am second-rate. Not gifted enough to make it into the first order.

But certainly enjoy Sport at its highest level. FWIW, I think Ronnie the "Rocket" will win tomorrow.

He deserves it. A warrrior IMO.

I have no idea what is going on in baseball. But a goodish game AFAIK. I met some people from San Diego who told me it repayed deep study.

But it's surely no surprise that my favourite Sport's Bar in London is Passyunk Avenue

Anyhow, let's meet again. Lovely Philly girl Emily almost convinced me to be an Iggles Fan. But honestly, I will die a Viking. How it is.

Well that's just it Steve, you don't have to. It's a reason to get out with your friends in the brilliant sunshine, have some beers, hot dogs and other junk food without worrying about your diet. There's lots of girls there, everyone's having a good time and it's more affordable than real sports. The other nice thing is that you really don't have to pay attention, you can just party your face off for the most part. When you hear a loud 'crack', you know it's time to look at the field as something good or bad just happened. If you can't figure it out, ask the person next to you. They'll gladly tell you, baseball fans are nice friendly people.

What's not to like?

Terrific day on the Nags! Weather was terrible, lots of rain so soft going at the York Ebor meeting. So sad to see a beautiful racecourse almost deserted.

A fiver on Pyledriver in the Group 2 Voltigeur, a big old horse that ran out of puff in the longer Derby.

Result! 10-1 or better. The guys in the Pub didn't want to know what I was on in the next one, in case it put the Kibosh on their fancy Lord North, which runs like a sprinter.

Mare Magical came an easy second in the Group 1 Juddmonte, but I didn't really fancy it against odds-on Ghaiyyath, which is different class this year.

On Friday the "Batmobile" Battaash should trounce everything else over 5 Furlongs in the Nunthorpe.

Battaash faces seven in Nunthorpe | Racing News | Sky Sports

But nothing is a gimme in Sport. My little fancy Ornate might get a second place at good odds. Only 2 1/2 L behind Battash last time out. Another enoyable afternoon ahead.

You must realise, leoman, you are talking to an International Sporting audience here.

Stanley Cup Playoffs | NHL.com

Your Boston Bruins Ice Hockey team is slugging it out in the quarter-final against Tampa Bay Lightning. For the big one.

And they play over many legs. Long way to go, IMO. I prefer one-off games myself. More fun. More random. Gives the underdog a chance.

We had a terrific day in my local Sports Bar. Last day of the York "Ebor" horse festival. After the excitement of Pyledriver, Ghaiyyath, Battaash and Love this week, we had the Skybet Ebor Handicap. The richest Flat handicap in Da World after the jumps Grand National!

I lost my shirt today. But if I had known handsome Fujaira Prince was a grey, I'd have been on it. We like greys. What a horse! 😱

Still a decent week on profits. Even if the Bar got most of them.

Last 16.40 race broke my heart though.

UK & Ireland Results - Horse Racing - BBC Sport

I was telling the guys how I always bet on Sky Defender in the wrong week. A solid old plodder that is often good for second at 30-1. I always miss its good race. 🙄

BTW, Ebor is apparently what the Romans used to call York. Educational, eh?

A fair point, well made, Yatsushiro. 😀

The way I see it was even Roman Soldiers just obeyed orders. It's an easy option. You get some sort of Pension in old age.

TBH, I am fascinated by the whole thing. Nobody knows how the Romans built Water Viaducts that lasted 2000 years. Nobody knows how they separated Gold or Silver from Lead.

Why they decided to spoil our day in Britain defeats me too.

We and the Gauls were doing great until these people rocked up:

You have nailed it RigPa!

The moments we Sportsmen love the most are fast beyond normal human ability!

Keith Houchen Diving Header Video 1987 FA Cup Final - YouTube

Benno's cross was so fast that Keith Houchen had to pull something out of the bag!

I was sat next to Gordon Banks for this goal. I think even he would have let it in.

Something to do with people doing almost impossible things. Breaking barriers, sublime x-factor, super human behavior or something else that's hard to describe. Not much of a football fan myself, but this is a great example of something that is close to being divine 🙂 and then I'm hooked!

It was a cracking goal, wasn't it! I used to know the whole squad so well. Played out of their skins in 1987. 😀

I used to do this job searching cars at Portsmouth Ferryport prior to embarkation to France. Standard questions like "Are you carrying any guns or Knives in your car?" 🙄

Whatever. Occasionally I met some fascinating customers. I had to tell this guy Henri Camara that he had an exceptional physique. Incredibly lean and ripped.

"What do you do for a living, Sir?"
"I play up front for Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier Football League."

This guy was built like a thoroughbred racehorse, if you follow...

Another attractive woman was Yachtswoman Ellen MacArthur. She was exhausted after months of fundraising. But incredible presence in a tiny frame.

These people are different. We can only learn from them.

A moment of Brilliancy today....

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/53904091

Pace cricket bowler Jimmy Anderson took his 600th. International Test wicket today. 😀

A record for a 90 m.p.h pace bowler. At 38 he has somehow kept himself going despite injuries and overwork. I have seen faster 100 m.p.h Pace bowlers. But they usually break down.

Pace bowling - Wikipedia

My brother used to chuck 85 m.p.h Pace balls at my head. I just took my chances. Ducked most of them, but still carry a couple of bruises on my legs and hips.

Anyhoo, great excitement on Saturday 29th. August in the 14.40 at Windsor Racetrack. The Nags again. Sky Defender is off for the second time in a week. Came second last week. Definitely on it each-way. But I could be wrong. 🙂

Has anybody been following, as I have, the lamentable Harry Maguire's misadventures in Greece? 😀

Harry Maguire: Man Utd defender likely to remain as captain - BBC Sport

We don't expect Sportsmen to have much brains. It's not what they do. 😕

He has been found guilty as Hell for getting drunk and punching Greek Cops. Pulling Rank with the old "Do you know who I am line....", then offering cash for a let off?

I am not sure how he convinced England Manager Gareth Southgate it was all a misunderstanding. But, TBH, Gareth is not the brightest guy on the block either.

Ah well, Leicester City made £80M selling this oaf. Good business IMO. 😎
