Brilliancy in Sport, Your favourite moments

Tony,
Anyway, there are 4 events that must be won in order to be a Grand Slam Champion. Hence there are 4 Grand Slam Events. I'm not sure why you object to this.

I thought the main contests in Tennis are the Australian, French, British and US Opens. 5 setters for the Men. Win all 4 in a year and it's called a Grand Slam. Of course our one is played on Grass rather than Clay. Which takes some adjustment.

Maybe 4 on the trot count too. Dunno. 🙂

In Rugby, the Grand Slam is when any of the six Nations wins all 5 games.

Seems old Djokovic is not winning any Grand Slams this year:

Ignominiously kicked out of the US Open for blatant bad temper. Hit a female line Judge in the throat. 😱

Triple Crowns seem to go down in history too... 🙂

We all know the Rugby one. It's between Ireland, England, Wales and Scotland in what is now the 6 Nations.

The 5 horse-racing Classics: 1000 Guineas, 2000 Guineas, Derby, Oaks and St. Leger.

A rarity to win 3 with the horses. Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing - Wikipedia

The longish 1m6F St. Leger is setting off on Saturday:

Racecard | 15:35 Pertemps St Leger Stakes (Group 1) | Doncaster | Sky Sports Horse Racing

Some excellent nags there. Pyledriver and Santiago are also having a go at the Arc in a month. I like both of them and am a bit undecided. Might give up and go for an each-way plodder like Berkshire Rocco.

Shame that Stradivarius is not going in the Doncaster Cup today, it would have romped it:

Because it won the Ascot Gold Cup and the Goodwood Cup so was in line for the stayers Triple Crown. It's focusing on the huge Euros in the Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe instead.

The Arc has a superb field this year too. Love and Enable both in it. I'm not writing off Serpentine either. Romped the Derby out of nowhere.

Interesting weekend on the nags.

I split my bets on Pyledriver for a win and Berkshire Rocco for a place in the Saturday St. Leger:

Broke even on that. Plodder Berkshire Rocco came second or third as expected. Heavy old Pyledriver ran out of puff. Bit too far for him.

What let me down was Ghaiyyath in the Irish Champion Stakes;

He got mugged by Aidan O'Brien with his three horses to set the pace. Oh well, two of me little favourites ran (Sunday) today.

Glass Slippers, who is the second fastest thing on 4 legs after Battaash at 5F. The Irish would have a job nobbling a leading horse if they are behind.

I was less confident about a horse in a longer race in Ireland where tactics are more a part than talent, but fancied Fujaira Prince which won its two last high quality races:

So took it each way. WIN-WIN. I sometimes wonder why I ever worked for a living when the Nags are so easy.

Dull weekend on the nags. I could only pick one decent horse. In the 15.25 sprint at Newbury. Clive Cox's 2-y-o First Edition came in for me last week at a decent 10/3. 🙂

Feel confident it will finish in the first 3, but a mere £2.50 EW staked this week. Just keeping me interested really.

Reason for the lull is everybody is waiting for the big one, the French Arc on October 4:

4:00 Longchamp (FR) | Standard Racecard | 4 October 2020 | Racing Post

At least 8 outstanding Classic Winners going. I don't know where I shall go on that one. Might take an each way chance like Stradivarius. But would like Enable to win its final outing. 15/18 ain't bad, is it?

And then followed by an equally good whole meeting at Ascot on October 17:

3:40 Ascot | Standard Racecard | 17 October 2020 | Racing Post

Not clear who is running in which races yet, but some equally amazing nags including some Arc contenders.

Mishriff and Palace Pier are incredible horses. But all me favourite Group One winners there. But always good to take an interest in the 2-y-o horses too, because they'll be contesting the Classics next year.

Nice!

We've all done it. Racing back from the pub on a wet road. Bike went sideways at a junction. 😱

I honestly couldn't have done it sober, because I would have been scared. But got it back from sideways to upright.

Never understood it, thinking back. 😀

I amaze myself sometimes. I was studying the only decent horse race next weekend, 26 September at Newmarket.
The Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes (Group 1)

Clive Cox has two of his best 2-y-o's going, Supremacy and Nando Parrado.

What happened last year?

Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes 2019

Clive's Golden Horde got beaten into second by some Nag called Earthlight.

Earthlight is the original Irish Raider. It's won 7 out of 8 races for half a million pounds. But always in France except for that win at Newmarket last year. Certainly slipped under MY radar. 😀

The plot thickens in the huge Juddmonte Middle Park race. It's worth £200,000, BTW.

Racecard | 15:00 Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes (Group 1) | Newmarket | Sky Sports Horse Racing

Her Majesty has one of Her little favourites running. I might split my bet with a small wager here on Tactical | Horse Profile | Sky Sports Horse Racing.

She's having a good season so far.

Not many people know this, but Her Majesty spends the first hour of the day studying not World Affairs, but the Racing Post. 😀

Ew, not unhappy with 301 in the first innings in a rain-affected match. Ravi Bopara was superb in yakking incessantly and interestingly during the rain-breaks on Radio 5 Extra.

This game could be a tale of two Cook's.

Essex Bowler Sam Cook bowled superbly. Now let's see what Essex Batter Alistair Cook can do. Flippin' cold as it goes. Maybe we should invent Ice-Cricket. 🙂
