TMC patent

>Samuel Groner came up with an early reference for a TMC patent, from 1979 (Hitachi, Kunio Seki, US pat 4145666)

Unmistakably TMC !

Hi Arthur,

1Vpk. BTW, don't build this amp, as the OPS isn't really stable.

Cheers,
E.

Hello Edmond

I follow that the OPS is really not stable because it is missing base resistors and some collector resistors and some current sources are ideal types (I assume this is this what you mean).

But the point I am making is are you saying this arrangement has lower THD than a similar circuit that uses ETMC.

Regards
Arthur

Yes. But maybe more is needed to make a triplet stable.
See for example: The YAP Output Stage

The THD20 was simmed with only a relative light load and at 1/4 of full power. At 1dB below clipping THD20 rises to 6ppm. So it isn't better than ETMC, but rather worse.

triplet

I assume the unlabled mustard-colored components pooged on the board in the bottom picture are the mentioned caps?

Hi Pooge,

I also don't see any caps across the driver BC junction in the schematic.
As for the "mustard-colored components" (the two through hole caps, right?), maybe these are the 470pF 'BC-caps'.
BTW, I wonder if this is the ultimate solution. Perhaps there are better ways to tame a triplet.

Cheers,
E.

Douglas Self did NOT say in that article that TMC is superior to TPC.

Mike,

You are just parsing words. Please get over it and get technical with facts and simulations, preferably on the separate thread that I suggested you start on TPC vs TMC.

Perhaps Jan or Edmond will weigh in on your comments about who thinks what about TMC.

I'm at least glad that you read Linear Audio 🙂.

Well, Peter Baxandall is/was not given to "mine's better than yours". He concentrates on technical facts, explain pro's and con's and expects the educated technical person to take his own conclusion, and select the appropriate solution for his/her set of requirements.
I find this ego-posting destructive and wastefull of creativity and energy.

BTW Not aimed at you Bob.

stabilizing a triplet

Hi Edmond
Anything specific you have in mind?

Hi Stein,

Sure, something like this.

BTW: thanks for your email. I hope that my email cleared a few things.

Indeed, it cleared a few things, but not Andy's drastic move. Now we can't see any longer how syn08 analyzed his triplet output stage. Probably vital info has been lost.

BTW 2 : I will update you regarding my Class D amp within a couple of days.
Cheers
S

I'm eager to learn about it !

Cheers,
E.
