what a great game. I'm in the Uk - not much quality american football here - but what a great game. Really fine example of your sport and the subtlties of the play.

Congrads.

Yep there seems to be an awful lot of people interested as observers but not trying this sort of stuff. My set up is in a 'celler' which is 20 ft long 7 ft wide 6 ft high. A 3d game or dvd at one end would be awsome in the dark and is the ultimate aim.

Any help or pointers would be appricated. I feel certain this can be cracked...just for the hell of it!

Two heads are better than one and you seem a little further down the line than me!

So how bad is this benq 557s? I mean it is better than all projection panels correct including xga panels such as nview z315 and sharp qa-2500?

Has anyone posted photos of the image quality?

Mhelin, what did you think of the image quality?

OK I have a Benq and a sharp qa 2500 The benq is a little better, However the whole LCD wont fit on a overhead its clumsy and looks like crap since Its just all hanging out and its not nice and compact like the sharp 2500( ie It wasnt ment to be taken apart) Im puting My benq back togeather and using it as a monitor, BTW I play videogames and DVD on My 2500 and It works great, and yes I have 4 projectors now In the house, Im not sure if its a sickness or smart?😀 🙄

LCD Quality

Lots of stuff on this in this forum.

The Benq is great, superb even.

Having used 3- 4 different video cards I'd have to say this is the single most important componant. With NV I just couldn't get the contrast right, same with a cheepo video card integerated in a lap top.

The ATI was give a 400%+ difference in picture quality.

I'd seriously suggest that the quality of the picture is not limited to the LCD or TFT.

The PC card used plays a much greater part than is stressed in the forum.

Image detail

Ok I'll make an effort to photograph this weekend.

Any particular film? or Game?

Lord of the rings maybe or MaxPayne 2...

The detail is fine - I can see no issues, except if I sit too close in which case I think my eyes can't keep up!

I now use an ati 9800 pro.

Image quality compared with a GF3 or laptop intergrated chipset is 400% better.

I get the impression that everything discussed seems to make ot thatbe LCD/TFT orientated.

Poor video card, poor playback even with the 'best' LCD/TFT

Unclebob,

Thanks. I ussually use Panic Room for testing and more specifically the breakin sequence where its all low contrast and dark. There is one shot in particular that shows Jodie Foster laying on the bed. Its a very flat seen so it really pushes the projector to see what it can do with blacks. If you can you should take shots of some bright scenes also.
If you cant use Panic Room dvd you can pick some dark low contrast shot from beginning of Matrix #1 but really I want to see image detail and color that Cruser said was poor.

Thanks

Any results yet Unclebob?

Why splitting? Because for coll./cond. fresnel, the only place the light path is normal(perpendicular) to the surface of the fresnel is in between the two fresnels. If you split them and place the LCD in between the two halves the majority of light passes through the LCD with a normal(perpendicular) trajectory, causing an optimized amount of light to pass through the polarizers, and the LCD.

But how is this lcd screen build differently that you need to split the fresnels and other lcd screens you dont?

Which of these is the correct answer to the optimum tilting angle of the beng557s or 567s?

WOW got mine to work

Took benq 567s apart, and have to figure out something to mount this in(dont like the lcd vunerable to heat and kids)
but without split fresnel, and an angle it is beautiful wow.
(took 2 weeks to get the nerve to strip this apart it's a nice monitor in it's assembled form)
again beautiful picture, blows any ppanel i've had away for clarity and contrast:smash:

Split frensel is nice thought, but not necessary

Would love to use split fresnel(to protect lcd)
But it looks so clear and brilliant I dont' see a need for it now
(i ruined my original fresnel trying to cut it down, hot plastic got on viewable area splattered onto it)
also i don't have lcd at an angle, and my current projector is fxl halogen bulbs and is very bright
anyways cant see a need to spend 30 more $$ to order split fresnel
the reason they say to use split one is to reduce the circular rings from image, but i cant see this, no hot spots either
one thing i highly recommend is to spend a little more on your overhead and buy a Dukane, it's worth it's weight in gold:hot:

Update

Hey all it's been a while, but at this point i have to relay a couple small issues with the benq 567s
first there is a hotspot in middle of screen, and i suspect this could be my optics, or light(FXL bulb still)
and it's messy, i haven't been able to build a suitable nice way house the lcd as of yet, and there's a contrast issue, when looking at faces-flesh tones seem to be off a bit, i can see the contrast doesn't look all that good(pc display like, text, and games are insanely nice looking though), but i haven't tried angling the lcd, was hoping someone could post thier benq lcd plans, so i could copy them, im not able to build a professional grade plexi setup like the bumblebee one i've seen, but any help would be appreciated:smash:
