One question to people who have dismantled the 557s/567s monitors: are there any jumpers on the LCD controller board which could be used for disabling the dithering (= mapping from the 16M palette to the 262K color palette by displaying alternating colors from 262K color map on screen causing also visual artefacts in moving images)?

At amazon.com the fp557s is $276.99(for black), with a $50 gift certificate. I little bit more than etw and shipped slower, but the $50gc is nice if you shop at amazon alot. Might use it for the vb50hrtv. There is a 30 rebate for the vb50hrtv for certain retailers, pdf.

In France, the FP567s and 557s have the same panel :
Au Optronics M150XN05, 262K, 16 ms, dithering.

mhelin :
I've read this test :
http://www4.tomshardware.com/display/20030626/lcd-05.html

"But if the color is not in the 262,000 table, the panel will display the two closest shades alternately. Because the display is very fast, your eye will only detect one shade, the right one. But for you to see an image, the monitor has to draw two of them"

They don't talk about "...visual artefacts in moving images..."
😕
Can you confirm 'ghosting and artefacts' with theses 'Au Optronics 16 ms panels' ?

ghosting

lol there is no ghosting or visual artifacts on the Au Optronics 16 ms panels, but mhelin is obsessed w/ getting his true 16 mil colors becuase I guess his eyes can see things ours can't. good luck, let me know if u find 1 w/ a response time this fast and this cheap.

Even a blind can see the flickering of the screen when the whole screen is filled with a dithering color... Unfortunately. But you can use 16-bit colors in Windows and calibrate the monitor so that dithering is virtually non-existent.

Webster's say's: - dith-er: to be nervously exited or confused...Welp! I'm dithered about dithering  Is there any humanly perceptable flickering or any other negative from dithering...just need to know if I should be concerned about this spec. when shopping for an LCD. Pardon my newbie inexperience, but I'm sensitive to such contoversies :bawling: 😉

The dithering doesn't really cause flickering, at least i don't see any. What it does do is reduce the colordepth (<<16M colors) and response time.
The colordepth is noticable esp. if you need to adjust brightness because your picture is too dark; the remaining colors after the brighness offset are not enough to render a true color pic.
The response time causes a cloudy smearing of the pic at fast moving camera positions.
If you have a choice, go for a real true color panel!

I took the fp557s entirely apart and set it up on my ohp. Plug it in and nothing. It must be broken! I wipe the tears dripping from my forehead and put it back together, Presto its working again. While on the ohp, I connected the lcd, controller card, powersupply, power cord, vga cable, and front panel buttons. Evidence, did you need to ground anything.

ground

On the second page of this thread is a pretty good picture of how I had it setup. The only ground I made was the green wire in the lower right corner of the pic, and i dont even think it was necessary. Most of the connections can be seen in the pic. Let me know if you need any more help. Good luck.

First, I DID NOT USE BULB HQI YET.

Theses first results are with the 24v/250W bulb of the OHP.
(The bulb is 7000-8500 lumens, 3400°K. Not really sure about the specifications)

Inside the OHP, there's a reflector and a condenser :

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

For the 567s :
- If paid 325 € (3 years guarantee). I did not find the 567 (without speakers) in France.
- The LCD is an AU Optronics M150XN05 v1.0 : http://www.auo.com/e_products_monitor_m150xn05.shtml
- The size is 317x243
- The active area is 304x230 mm
- So, there is :
5 mm on the left without pixels. 8 mm on the right. 5 mm in top. 8 mm in bottom.
- Thickness = 2mm

:att'n: One problem : there's a film stuck on the front of the glass. (polarizing film ???)

Tomorrow, I builds the supports for Fresnel and the LCD and I test with the HQI :bulb:

The results will be on my page. It's simpler for me.
It's difficult for me to speech in English and I am still under moderation.
I must wait several hours to see my posts and the answers.

Because of that, many Europeans do not post on this forum. It is a pity. 🙁

hey Kolima nice job i too am using 250w HQI 🙂

ok any ways..what are the specs of your LCD (i've heard many conflicting specs)

i plan to get that LCD too since its cheaper than the 1560M
and how much of the screen is cut off?

Hey,

The NEC 1545V is actually alot cheaper than the Benq. I just bought one offf ebay a couple days ago for only $215. But just yesterday, a couple of them was sold for less than $200.
