As I near some sort of end to the project, little repetitive tasks lose their attraction.
There will be 96 small roughly triangular gaps between the driver front plates.
Originally i intended to fill these with a small MLV (mass loaded vinyl) infill, as per pic attached.
Will this do anything for the sound?

This one shown before i converted the rounded "difusion" edge from wood to felt, also not yet completed

I think whats right for me at the moment is to get them in service soonest, see how they sound and measure, and then reflect on modifications and details.
So, seals for drivers in place on Right hand speaker now, mounting drivers and wiring next.

And i did the phase and continuity check, all in phase moving same direction at same time to 9v battery
So, with top retaining mount firmly fixed to the wall and bolted into the top plate (refinements can follow) the tower is there and going nowhere, but either the base isn't square or the floor isn't flat, i made both so no idea which!, could be the walls, someone else built those, that adjustment can follow, i guess i have to taper the base or put on a small packer.......?
Inevitably i couldn't resist it so i plugged it in instead of the old speaker.
It makes a noise, all the drivers work, no point in telling anything more objective than that.
A week to complete the other one now.

I would always make such a line array with little enclosures for each driver and expanding it like a modular system.
Like this you could listen to a growing array and "see" what the line source does during progression.
If for example a line array of 8 or 12 already comes out as an optimum you could use the other drivers for a second room or project.

Ah well, i didn't do that so one piece they are!
And apart from taking a saw to them, they will have to remain that way!
There are pros and cons i am sure, actually just moving a 2m+ array weighing nearly 30kg with no handles is quite difficult, and joining two halves together would be very difficult as well.
We did have a discussion early on the thread about shorter arrays but i was convinced to go full height.
If say 5 units in one space were a sound solution one could simplify construction with modules that way, but when i started the reading and listening took me to individual cabinets per driver.
I decided early on I would be doing this build project only once so I took the decision to go the whole hog from the beginning.
I will do some tuning i am sure, but no re-builds.
I rebuild my tonearm regularly but not something this scale!
Doubting my own judgement is normal for me so here we are with the whole thing.

Having the first tower in place i can see from seat 2, first pic, where it is intended to focus the aim (just in front) that the first reflection point is centred on the window above the radiator.
I could cut away the skirting outside and behind the tower to move that point closer to the back wall, allowing for some treatment to be introduced....
I don't have to do it anytime soon i guess, maybe later, but how much would that improve things? - tearing the decor apart is rarely popular...

I like placing loudspeakers, especially small ones close to room boundaries and they profit a lot from it.
From a single fullrange driver I measured by placing it close to two room boundaries a sharp (inaudible) dip in the mids.
Moving it 10cm away but keeping it close to one of the two boundaries this sharp dip was gone.
What weighs more is that with correct EQ it sounded well balanced again but some 10db gain in the upper bass had to be compensated (making the small driver looking much bigger effectively).
So one single 8cm driver close to two room boundaries lets it generate audible bass.
The same driver in the free field could not convince at all. The loss in bass could not be EQed.

I can report that I have a simple 2.1 "home cinema" system with two 8cm driver close to two room boundaries and they are cut off with 6db (single electrolytic 230uF) at approx. 100hz in a small well stuffed enclosure and some damped reflex opening lowering Q a bit.
Works only due to the reinforcement of the two walls satisfactorily.
For keeping the impedance unchanged I would have to make a small line array with 4 drivers. The system works well without further EQ because the small drivers are pretty linear by itself.
Stuffing the enclosure was important to tame the upper bass.

And they are all in phase as well, but measure 0.2 ohm higher than the other one across the speaker terminals (6.5 and 6.7)
Well, memory fading as well, looking back at 206, both sides measure identical at 6.7, the lower value was individual drivers.
Is there a beam in the ceiling there? Might want to put some absorption on the side that faces the speaker in order to not get back-and-forth reflection between the beam and the wall?A week to complete the other one now.

All this will be awesome anyway ;-)
