bought some coffee and a side of Scottish smoked salmon (both for my mum), some chocolate and curry powder (both for my sister) and a book to improve my handwriting now that it’s clear I won’t be a medical doctor there’s no point in retaining my unreadable scrawl.

I also nailed down a whole mess of 4-40 polyphenylene sulfide shoulder washers from Electronic Goldmine, perfect for mount-down isolation for TO-220 packages. They are loads better than the nylon washers generally used - good for higher temperatures, and don't get brittle with age.
The ones I have are Bivar 5W-032-135. You can get them from the same companies that make heat sink hardware like Wakefield and Aavid/Thermalloy. Dig-key and Mouser are a good start, but they're lots cheaper from Goldmine. They're tiny enough so you could deal with normal post rather than the robbers at UPS.
Here's a link to a similar washer from Digi-key. They ain't cheap...

Here's a similar washer from Electronic Goldmine - I stocked up big time...

That Electronic Goldmine does look good. I think I might try it.
Used Xoom, the PayPal thing, to pay the annual municipal fees for our shuttered family home in Italy. Seems significantly cheaper than brick & mortar bank fees.
Gave the green light on reshingling the rental home. Mrs leadbelly dictated the shingle type and colour, oh well, I guess I'm blameless.

I have been buying parts from the Electronic Goldmine for at least 15 years. This is what the mail girl brought me this morning.....and yes, I got the TO220 sil pads, but forgot the #&$^ washers.
As with most surplus places I don't buy parts that don't have decent pictures, and I have never received a bad (counterfeit) cap from them. I tend to buy only name brands (Panasonic or Nichicon) in 105C temp ratings. These are Nichicon 4700 uF 80 V.
There are 200 100K trimpots that fit my Tubelab boards, a few 1 meg PCB mount pots for synthesizer modules (nearly impossible to find new), 250 ceramic bypass caps for digital stuff, some LDR's and hardware.

Picked up my glasses today and got accustomed rather quickly, but they differed not much from my old ones, apart from the scratches.
Had to buy a 22 potentiometers for my synthesizer, as the Russian 'A' and 'B' markings was opposite our Western ones. Found, however a shop in UK that had correct values and potentiomers with a longer (plastic) axle.

I think I have been buying from Goldmine for a similar length of time, - at least for so long that I cannot recall my first order. When I see something I think I need, I stock up, fattening my war chest for an eventual business venture. They are especially good for cheap trim pots.
I have gotten only one counterfeit electrolytic cap from them that I can recall, probably from no fault of their own.

I used to buy a lot from the US surplus parts houses years ago, but USPS eliminating truck shipping to Canada killed that. Still good for big orders of small components though where the high shipping cost is distributed.
Lots of outdoor stuff ordered in the last couple of days. Treated wood to make a small pergola to support and hide the downspout crossing over the entrance walk. A chain link gate to fill the gap where the previous owner of this house, possibly the most frugal man alive, refused the builder's option.

Once I test fitted the 1 meg pots into some synthesizer modules, I ordered some more from the Goldmine.....along with the missing shoulder washers. 3 color LED's for 10 cents each can make for some neat blinkey light stuff, so I got some of those too....that sale ends today.
