You can convert Inches and Millimeters several ways.... None are /perfectly/ accurate though, but they will get you close enough...

INCH * .039 = MM

MM / .039 = INCH

INCH / 25.4 = MM

MM / 25.4 = INCH

Whichever you remember easier is good enough.

Well, if you need super accuracy, then just change to the following....

INCH * .03937 = MM
MM / .03937 = INCH
MM / 25.40005 = INCH
INCH * 25.40005 = MM

Note: 25.40005mm * .03937mm = .9999999685 Inches

As you can tell, those figures are off by less then a millionth so they should be more then accurate for your purposes, I realize accuracy is important, but there is no need for even hundred-thousandths accuracy, even in the project we are doing here.

And if you need super dooper uber perfect freaking accuracy.... (god only knows why... ) then use the following...

INCH * .039370078700000000000000000000007= MM
MM / .039370078700000000000000000000007= INCH
INCH * 25.400000025908000026426160026955 = MM
MM / 25.400000025908000026426160026955 = INCH

Note: 25.400000025908000026426160026955 * .039370078700000000000000000000007 = 1 (thats right, a perfect 1)

I hope you dont need the latter, I was mainly putting them up to be a little sarcastic, and funny, please dont take it the wrong way, I just dont think there is a need for that much accuracy. But you asked, so there you are 😉

light-specs

hi trev

thanks for your mail - and once again thanks for your great work!

I just got a question regarding the light setup you use:

this should be the ge (general electric) bulb if i'm right - is it this one?:
CMH-150W 942 G12 (product code: 38694)

so if this is the right bulb than all of you guys who are looking for a suitable ballast or ignitor just jump to page 12 and 13 on the pdf-file linked above. there you'll find third party manufacturers recommended by GE!

i know that it's hard to find someone selling GE-bulbs in Austria or Germany (Philips is the number one seller here) so if anyone knows a shop were i can get them - please feel free to post or mail me! otherwise i've to order them from GB.
Anyway if i find someone selling these parts at a decent price i'll let you know...

so keep up the great work guys - and Trev - please hurry up with the plans 😉 cause i allready got the the copy lens and will recieve the lilliput this week (if the online-tracking info isn't fooling me)

have a nice day
Roland

Ace -

I have one question. There have been so many threads that center around your use of the 7" panel that I can't recall if you ever gave details, but I recall you said that you're design WOULD take care of the throw distance/screen size issue - a solution that still seems quite elusive.

Am I recalling correctly and do you have any specs to post or details on that subject, such as "You will be able to have your projector "x" inches away from the screen and be able to keep your image size at "xyz" size?

Thanks

Heya lori, the throw distance on my projector is longer then a ohp, just that, to get a precise screen size from various throw distances we would need a zoom lens. My design doesnt incorporate a zoom lens, but it does have a small lcd that acheives a longer throw, that and the use of a medium focal projection lens. With a throw of about 3m 9ft? we can obtain an image that is 80-90" in size diagonal, this is also wide screen diagonal, its not as high as a 4:3 ratio so the image also apears smaller but wider. If this was a 4:3 format, the screen would be about 100" in size and apear bigger as we have a higher projected image. I hope it helped clear things up abit, i see there is abit of confusion with so much talk around in the forum.

I gotta read through the post, but I'm looking at starting fresh, and your projector seems to be one of the best, so I'm interested.

Heya squeeky, ill hit you with and email. Condenssers are $15 ea we only need one of these, the reflectors are also $15 ea, we will only need one of these too, the frensels will be about $30 a set, we will only need 1 of these and the mirror about $15 ea, and we only need one of these lol ill post up a price list soon.

Thanks Ace

Hey I just wanted to say thanks for helping me out. I'm a poor college student, in a small apartment. Figure since I need a new TV, I could spend about the same as a nice 27" flat on a projector and get a nice 80". If you could give me that info and the detailed parts it would be great. I do have a question though if I want a screen between 65"-85" can that be done with projector only 132" away. I'm in the mp3car thing, so I'm fimiliar with the Lilliput screen, I did want to let you know that have a new 8.4" XGA screen too.

Thank you for your response. I'm still looking for the solution to 90" max screen width from about 16 feet, else It's going to have to be small enough to be unobtrusive as a ceiling mount at a closer distance because I still refuse to have cabling and cords strewn about the floor or run along walls/across ceilings or to have a torpedo attached to the ceiling. I still haven't solved that issue while being able to maintain good resolution, prevent screen-door, and all the other associated evils.

Thanks for the information.

Looking forward to pics of your completed project. You and Cruser are quite the innovators.

heya lori,

i am not ace lol but saw your problem. a good tool for calculating distances referring lcd-size, fl and pj-distance can be found here.
well, it's in german. however it's easy to use. hope have helped w that.

Heya Lori, i beleive a diylabs triplet may solve your problem on that throw, i maybe designing another model with that incorporated so this projector can sit at the back of a large room on a hifi cabnet/shelf ect and yet not have an image the size of the whole wall lol.
