hey dudes
too true.
i'm a bit of a novice myself, and am prepared to manufacture a copy of ace's design in order to get an accelerated understanding of the basic principles as well as a working unit at minimum opportunity cost.
altho i am prepared to wait until ace is ready to send out the final plans.
- dont listen to em ace, be cool and take your time -

if you want to waste money and time on finding out, what ace already did and has written down, have phun; otherwise i would buy his plans and would bring some of my own individuality in it for myself, that's much cheaper and believe me it will much more fun...
Slize, Why attack me??
I don't judge anyone. I realy appreciate ace's help he is realy a walking book on pj design. For some his plans will be the thing ther waiting for, but i want to find out on my own, then i will also learn from the experience.

when using plans
that someone else developped by experimenting for about 8 months ( as I understand) it is not DIY anymore, it .. willl be... in the future..... an assembly process without the original diy spirit.
that's what I think, the video threads have been going on for a long time now and in sept 2002 I made 3 projectors in a row based on several ideas and with innovation that came from this site as well as from myself ......
I have no clue what ace is doing, the more i read, the less i comprehend the whole adventure he is having, at least, it is very funny for him, there is a lot of lol going on!
I also think, i have a strange hunch, that there are at least 2 fundamental flaw in ace's design, I have seen some of it in other people's designs and calculations such as diameter, distance, throw distance etc... and when I told them about it, they got mad ????????
alo I have a problem, because of the spirit and intention of this forum, that someone could be shamelessly promoting commercial activities that belong on Ebay or other commercial distribution channels.
I made and sold the 3 priojectors but I would never, NEVER,!!!! put them out on a DIY forum in order to make money! That my friends, I think, is despicable!
just my 2 (old) Belgian franks!

If you think there are flaws, why not ask about them? Even if you disagree with the method going on in this thread, you can't deny that many folks here will get their first taste of the complex optics planning that must be done in a projector.
Whether we DIY from scratch or follow plans, we're all learning here. I'd like to learn from you as well.

Well maybe it's time your mentioned to me the flaws u see even though this is a proven design to work! If you have no clue as to how things are placed, how they work ect then i sujest either you read the thread carfully or get with the times, the tech is changing, all questions in here are welcome, there is no law on that, as for the lol is there a law against being happy? i see some take this the wrong way, maybe i wont be so happy in the furture.

Tell me! im open to sujestions, if you see a problem i can explain to you exactly how its over come or you can maybe give me an idea.

Oh realy? are you realy thinking of this? as i said, read the thread again, if u cant beleive or trust a true diyer then thats your problem not mine, this isnt an advertised article, infact i wasnt going to even make plans nor get the parts in, this all came about the call for people wanting to build my projector and to help them get the right parts for the design (wich are not easy to obtain), this is for the people, not me, profit? muwahahahaha what profit? if i wanted profit i wouldnt be in here helping others out! i would be on ebay, also regarding advertising, placing a link with the parts u need with acociated prices is not advertising, posting it in a new thread just for selling is, i didnt have these details posted in a post, its a link to my page that i made especially for the guys in here who ARE interested in making a copy of my projector.
As for diy, well it is, weather its from a plan, or your head, aluminium doesnt bend its self, plexi doesnt cut its self, ya sure u are going from a plan, in fact if u realy want to get technical anything is non diy, you know why? cos u learnt numbers at school, you got told how to draw, you went to a physics class ect, in my eyes thats just being foolish coming out with coments.
You know what? its people like you that make people leave diy and not share their knewlege, in the last year i have been here i havnt seen you post up too much new tech nor any ideas to help people out/ advance, nor helping any new guys out with strait forward questions.

Ace point, game set and match 🙂
DIYer here on the side of Ace. This man devoted time and effort to the forum, we don't need people taking him away, we need more people praising him.

Ive been away for awhile, and when I stopped by to look around, I ran across your post uvodee. Quite frankly, I'm a bit surprised that you don't see the benefit of what Ace brings to the DIY table.
I'm glad Ford and GM didn't stop making cars because someone else developed a better way to do it through experimenting with the designs of others. Which brings me to commerce... money... making a profit.
I also have a problem with the spirit and intent of this forum. If someone on this forum developed a better way to build a projector, and the major (and minor for that matter) manufacturer's saw it and offfered money, would you not sell it? Or would the spirit of DIY keep you from making a handsome profit, based on your efforts, and maybe even some hard work on your part?
Their is no shame my friend in developing a hobby that could earn money. It's like some of the more popular shock-jocks on the radio say... if you don't like what's being said, change the station.

Re: uvodee
1) the projectors I made, I sold them to recuperate the costs of enclosure, lamps, etc...
2) I did leave the video forum but this morning I saw this thread that had been going on since oct 2003 and was wondering what the catch was, which became very clear early in the thread, that is when I decided I'd give it a try to voice my thoughts.
3) as to contributing to the video forum, I feel proud to have contributed, warned etc others for certain things but that was about oen and a half year ago. see one of the pics I posted long time ago on using a 5.6 inch lcd panel and the consequences of lenghtening a flatflex cable through the use of Molex parts, how to get them for free etc.... also I used with succes the banned idea of LOA systems which works wonderfully if used correctly
4) I think a lot of us nissed a chance when the info got out from the Korean diyers and their unbelievable fine results, I asked them forum to get on that wagon but helas...... no try.
5) that Ace can do what he wants to do is logical, we live on e free internet. That he seems to be able to stretch time to reach a certain goal that apparently some of you are waiting for( i read some reactions) that, my friends, goes beyond my comprehension. Further more it looks like he is the only one trying to achieve this, which makes it more like a cult than a groups discussion

I think the fact that's it HAS been active since oct 2003 says something about this method of work.
Most folks, you'll read, are following ace's work with the intent of ADAPTING the results for their own ends.
One of the things I've learned in my year of reading this board is that parts are fleeting. trying to navigate the myriad sources for parts is a headache. I haven't see nanyone do the kind of speicif component testing that ace has done.
I know that I *could* build a projector from scratch. I also know I'll be on my own, working with mismatched optics, and unable to test several components to choose the best possible combination.
Ace solves that problem for me, by finding and providing decent parts. His plans further illustrate the physics behind the work, and if they are what ace has said they will be, their true value will be in the overview and explanation sections rather than the blueprints -- because people will earn HOW to meaningly modify the plans to achieve a desired result.
I will still be building the projector myself. I have collected the various parts, will have to do all the wiring, assembly, metal work, callibration, etc. How is that not DIY?

Sorry this was not the intention of my previeus posts. I don't want to argue with anyone. ( i might need them some day 😉 ).
But i still believe that DIY is about doing stuff yourself and not only the building and watching part, but also the planning and understanding part. Doing everything the same will not improve our skills. Sometimes doing something different, results in an unexpected find and untill there is nothing to improve we need to develop. Ace is one of the masters and i have great respect for him and i don't see anything wrong in him selling stuff to others. I only said that we need to keep thinking, looking to improve our projectors. Don't want to be a follower, but want to be a inventor!!!!

I see nothing wrong with trying to turn a buck on this project!
For one, Ace is NOT the only one doing it. DIYLabs has been doing it for years (and offering shady info to boot)... Brainchild did it... and a few other people I know of are either doing it or have plans in the works that will only HELP the diy community! Sure there may be some small fees involved... but let's face it... nobodies getting rich here! If we can make a few dollars for all of the time and effort put into this project over the years, why not!
I myself have spent close to $3000 dollars on the units I've built along with almost 2 years of research and testing. Spent countless hours reading and searching the web for info and parts. Had custom parts made for me! Now your gonna sit there and say that when I open up my site I'm in the wrong for charging a few bucks? I dont think so!
Ace's project won't have the best picture or resolution... but people love it because it's the first SMALL diy projector being made around here and it's not made out of wood or cardboard! 🙂 If he can help people along the way and they are willing to pay a few bucks for his findings... who cares. Let him help.

I cant believe some one can come into this thread and condem ace after reading the whole thread i personaly know ace has put countless hours in to this project to say hes trying to make money for nothing is a discrase he suplys people with the right parts to build his projector if he makes a few bucks doing it he deserves it
as for the selling of plans i do believe he was asked for the plans he didnt come out and advertise them
ace there is no shame in what you are doing keep up the good work you are a pioner in your quest for the bigscreen 😉 it will be a sad day for the diy comunity when you leave this fourm i for one hope that dosent happen because someone complains you are making to much money from your hard work
now lets see some pics of that masterpiece you are creating cmon a seethru projector thats awesome

Charging to tell people to put a TV in a box with a fresnel lens... is RIPPING PEOPLE OFF!
Charging to tell people how to make one of Ace's, Cruser's, Brainchild or even one of my own designs... is not! Totally different!
(If I left anyone out I'm sorry 🙂 )

lol that reminds me of when i first got into projection i spent $20.00 on a fresnel and set of plans i folowed them to the letter and still couldnt figure it out i never got the results they claimed
then i found this fourm trying to find more info to help on my porjector with a fresnel lol man i got smoked lol
but i would have killed for a set of plans when it came time to build a lcd projector i think anyone first starting out would love a set of plans to use for their first projector
the key is to exparment with them to make advances but to have guidlines to lookback apon when you have trouble
i know i will never be satisfyed i will exparament till i "DIY".
