Ace_3000....pictures of Projector?

Heya Trev:

As you know already - I've talked to you about the issues that others have brought up. I want to project an image of about 80" onto a wall from about 14 ft. away. I really don't know if this is possible - but I'm hoping so. I agree with Lori in the fact that I want to be able to put this thing in a cabinet and not have to ceiling mount the thing. If need be - I can re-arrange my room - but this would be the better fit for me. I'll be keeping track of this thread as I visit frequently during the day at work. Just let me know about what you'd know about this type of throw.

I know I'm basically repeating what Lori already said - but my main reason for posting is just to congratulate you on the job that you're doing. There aren't many people in this world that would do what you're doing. So - I just want to say - THANKS!

Keep up the great innovations - and don't feel too rushed!

Thanks - AC

parts

Hi Trev,

First things first, congratulations with your magnificent design! Congratulations to everyone who made this forum into what it is now. I've read it with great interest for quite a long time and I'm joining in now as I am about to start on my own projector.

Therefore, I'm interested in the parts you are ordering (today I believe?). Can you please send me a pricelist as well?

regards,
Erik

Music to my ears

Wow, Ace thats exactly what I wanted to hear 132" is actually 12 feet, but 80" screen would be awesome. If you would please get that e-mail when your going to order parts. I still have yet to read what a estimated total cost is on this project. Let me know

Thanks
Squeeky

I am using the DIY labs triplet. At the distance I mentioned, I'm hitting 10' (120") + It takes up the whole wall. The panel is a qa 1650 which has a viewable area of right at 8.5 inches wide.

I have the lens before the mirror, but I don't think putting it after will make a difference.

Sorry to muddy up your thread with a rash of questions about distance/size - I just meant to understand if your plans would accomplish this result.

I am determined not to build from scratch until I have a proven method to accomplish the results I want at the distance I need. It's difficult to know how another panel with higher resolution, better contrast ratio, will perform at that distance, because we all know the limitations of the qa 1650 - at that distance and size resolution stinks and the screen door is awful. Although, I get a good picture at about 9-10' as seen here (which I think is an amazing accomplishment given what I have to work with) http://www.lovemyoldhome.com/projector but it's smak in the middle of the room, cables, cords etc and it is as ugly as all hec.

I will see if I can wrap my brain around the calculator that was posted earlier. Thanks for the responses.

well, it's in german. however it's easy to use. hope have helped w that.

OMG, not only is it in German, it's metric. I must be one of the oldest dinosaurs on this forum. I haven't used cm since I graduated high school, and I don't feel like mentioning how many years ago that was.

My brain works in inches and feet, like it's 16 - 12" tiles with 1/4" grout lines from one wall to the other. That = throw distance. The 2nd floor joists are on 16" centers, and if ceiling mounted, that's how much room I have to deal with since I intend to recess the bulk of a custom build into the ceiling with access from the room above on the 2nd floor.

Time to blow the cobwebs out of the old noggin.

hey johnnynemonic!

Do I need an ignitor for that CDMT bulb ???

As far is I understand after reading that .pdf-file you don't need a ignitor if you're using one of the electronic ballasts recommended by GE.

If you use a normal magnetic ballast you'll need an ignitor.

But I'm not an engineer - maybe ace can confirm that better...

i see. so i made the conversion for the dinosaur lol. at a throw of 192" or 16ft
your pj must be at 4:3 = 125" provided using the diy-labs triplet. i havn't got a clue what fl this triplet has. i suppose around 12 1/2 ".
well, there is another oppurtunity to get a smaller pj at the same throw. use a spectacle glass w minus 1 diopter from the optician w same diameter your triplet has. it'll extend your fl to around 15 3/4 " . put it onto the side where the light goes in. it'll work, definitely. we've tried.no changes of the setup is necessary.

cobweb vanished? lol

Heya Guys,
you can talk about what you want in here except the obvious lol. Manny read this thread and its a good place for all to learn abit on all things rather then just about my projector.

Johnny, the light i bought came from the UK, here is the link:

http://www.internationallamps.co.uk/new_web/Html/Discharge/Discharge75.html

They also sell to customers so its an easy thing to abtain from these guys, however they can be abit slow, a few phone calls of abuse may be on the cards lol. The lamp you want is the one in the top of the list, also ask for a ballast box as this will have the ignigtor built in, all should cost about 50GB pounds with a g12 socket.

ACE im not a patient man. I need a projector fix!!! is there any way we can pre-buy your plans get a sneak peak, or plans of the parts that are in good working order, and then when your done a full set of plans? there are enough people on this forum that would be wiling to do this (I would asume) that any cash flow problems you have with all the group buys and such will dissapear.

Dont get me wrong: I'm not trying to undermine your profeshonalisum by asking for incompleat plans. But if we pay you in advace then you dont need to wory about keeping "trade secrets" seacret and can share your work thus far in its totality. We would also get a better feel for your PJ and can think longer and harder about any alterations we are planing on making.

Meant with the best of goodwill

Is just fouling around and trying this not more fun then buying plans and building the replica?

First try it yourself and then, if your not satisfied, buy his plans.

Ok that is my opinion

that is my opinion too! However, im a PJ noob and need to borrow pro's experience and genrall proness. What im realy after is plans on that light box and a genral idea of what his projector is like. Once i have incorporated that knolege into my iner workings I feel I will be able to create (or atempt to create) this.
