Well tubesteve , since when do real tube lovers just look at plate curves and distortion characteristics on paper in order to choose a tube?
I am sure your discovery will enlighten Lamm, Borbely, B.A.T. etc so that they chuck out all those trashy 6c33's.

No,no,no,no,nooo, I like this tube why should I listen to you I dont care what tube or car or what ever you like. If you find another tube more accurate it is up to you but do not point your finger at me and find that I am doing is wrong.
I can tell you that I have good listening experience to both DIY and factory-built amplifier tubes with 300B, 2A3, KT88, EL34, GM70, 6550, SE, SET, PP, SEPP, PPP, OTL you name it.
But one day I came home to an friend who has two BAT VK150 I almost fell off the sofa where I sat it was the first time I heard a tube amp that I did not sounds sickly-sweet.
I own a couple of others tube amps but my 6C33C SET gives me more joy right now.

i see, the defenders are back to work. music naturally contains a percentage of harmonics. the DC regulator tubes add odd harmonics. there is nothing that can be told "hifi", just look at the plate characteristics. the meaning: "i like them a lot" is not a clear expression, it seems to be just a defense of diy self constructed equipment. as said before: every tube MUST be good for any purpose bcc. it is a tube is a statement. the sales has won the battle again and the believe. no numbers of THD or so are presented, just personal impressions . personal impressions are just for one case, but do they apply for the majority?. we know all that DIYers are a kind of hardcore in defending the results.. audio is a very personal result, therefor it should be measured according to a standard and compared. an expression like: I am satisfied since years etc. is not repeatable and therefore witout any technical value.these statements simply dont exist in a databook. nowadays it is popular to misuse any tube with graet statements just for thesales: ary, sound ( means what he he ) deep bass not ok=(transformer not good?), mid sound level dull..... we have in amplification a lot of complex problems ( seee smith chart) which are simply overheaerd by people. tube is not any tube, its so simple. or: do they tell you: this is a steak, but in reality its cabbige?
this is personal, others may not like the sound. at the end, we are talking about spices an herbes in a menue. i think, as long as everyone is happy with any tube and sound he/she likes, there will be no war. tubes are pieceful animals, connecting people, thats the good news.
as an engineer i see things a bit different, bcc. we have to try, to satisfy a maximum amount of possible buyers. i think, you understand that position.
but: we all love our tubes!

This is the usual thoughts about 6C33C-B aka 6S33S-V but as I see it, there is no perfect tubes -valves or there is.
I have an SET since couple years back and I'm really happy. I have built my SET after Ari Polisois circut, I also bought the OTP of him.
I found Ari's Simplex after I searched infomation on 6C33 SE amplifiers, even if it does not follow the normal path I found it so interesting that I just have to build me one.
I guess that I have around 15W from the amplifier, but very pleasant sound but there are some upgrades after my purshase and these have improved the sound. I have made some minor changes in the power supply but Ari have make it to.
I have the SC-OTP next time I will go for the SC-SCC version.

Hi !
I,m new here and I will build my first SE amp .In the past I have build few PP
desings, but now I will try SE with 6c33 .I have look design vom Ari and is
simple but have no fedback how it works -sounds in praxis. What mod do have
you done on PS ? I have idea to regulate driver and power tube voltage and
also heat driver with DC ?What OT are you using . I have one with 600 ohm
400 ma and 4-8 ohm output .R on primar winding is 42 ohm.For me sound is
on first place ,power is not so important .Have also se Borbrly design but i
dont know how performed ?
Thanks for answer

Me too!
Since spring t.Y. I'm trying to do something upon jogi's roehrenbude, but
"a long hot summer" made my plans totally impossible.
At the time I have almost all components, but none output transformer.
Any news by your project?
Cheers!
BTW
Yeti? Any relation to Miran Vodovnik? 😉
Hi !
I have most parts on the bench ( NOS 6BL7 from GE 1963 ,also 6LS7
and 6c33 from 1980 matched ) I,m not shure what plan i use ,but
tend also to try one from Jogis Rohrenbude ,i think one from Ernst
Roessler but another schematic with 6LS7 in the front and 6BL7 as
driver.OT will be one from Gerd Reinhofer .I think i will use a mix of ptp
wiring and pcb for input valves .I have not yet worked with 6c33 but drift
of working point is one of problems .I,m here in Gemany in contact with
programer -to implement an ic controler to regulate and monitoring bias,
voltage and warm up phase will be with controler also simpler. But it is not finished yet.I must also buy PT -toroid custom wound (Tovornik -Slovenia )
No i dont know Mr.Vodovnik ,I,m form MB.
Yeti🙂

Seems that the low primary impedance of the OPT sort of negates the low output impedance "potential" of the 633C-B, what is the max primary impedance recommended?
6C33 voltage regulator
to be serious: i cann't really understand the enthusiasm about that voltage regulator tube, ist not so linear, it likes drifting like nearly all of these beasts, it needs driving power, it has a big heater power consumption and there are some other issues as well. the only advantage it seems to have: it looks big, impressive, and provides a big glow. at the end, its not a real good triode as there are other, better ones. i know, there are lovers for that bomb, for what reason ever.we all know: "i have designed it, so it must be impedance, and if the core is not big enough, there is lack of bass.

Hi tubesteve,to be serious: i cann't really understand the enthusiasm about that voltage regulator tube...
...there are other, better ones.
not only by that tube, very often is hard to understand people's enthusiasm... 😉
But... that make our life non-boring 😉
BTW, do you have any essentially better suggestion?
Cheers,
Hi Yeti,Hi !
I have most parts on the bench...
any news by your 6c33c project?
About OT...

Mr. Miran Vodovnik is Slovenian shot-putter (also record holder).
BTW, I'm from MB too...

sorry, can't say what is max. primary impedance. Until now none my own experience above that.
As you probably know, the optimal prim. impedance is 600 ohm (even upon the majority opinion).
Good luck & Cheers,

in a certain way u are right: enthusiasm drives the world and the tubes design. unfortunately, for tubes, there is nothing new under this sun. as long people stay happy with their own hom brew design, the world is peaceful. this seems the better way to go, we finally can agree to something as a compromise and we need not to fight with guns for other ideas. lets keep us this way!

Hi
I just finished my amp with 6C33C; I must say is the best amp I ever had. I use the Borbely diagram with 6H8C and 6C2C. The sound is linear, very dynamic and detailed. The bass is impressive.
I listen a lot of tubes amplifiers but for my taste The 6C33C is far better... I was afraid at the beginning because a lot of people say that this tube don’t sound so good, maybe if look at the specification but in practice is other thing. Now I will made him a proper case ant it will be may main Amp.
My next project is Malquida amplifier with 6E5P and 6C33C. I want to see the differences between Malquida and Borbely
Regards
Gabriel.

you have my signature under that your nice thought! 🙂
OK, I'm not joking, I really like to know your triode suggestions (without Kalashnikov in my hands 😀 ).

Congrats, nice work!
Please, can you say us some details about OT, Va, .... ?
Cheers,
Hi Gabriel,Hi
This is the schematic for the OT. I use iron E20 20cm Fe Si. Primari section 550 ohm
thank you very much for your OT info!
But... do you mean EI 20x20cm (f.E. EI192 or EI216)? 😕
Cheers,
Thanx Gabriel,
which one EI120 is yours: a (14,8 cm2), b (19,3 cm2) or c (26,7 cm2)?
Hope not to ply you with questions to much... 😉
Cheers,
