Frugel-Horn XL for Alpair 10.3/10p, Fostex FF165wk, more

This is a relatively old thread, but still relevant. I am curious as to which of the currently available 6" full rangedrivers are recommended for the FHXL. Certainly since 2013 there have been newer drivers introduced. What are the important characteristics for a driver to be successful in the FHXL enclosure. The Alpair 10P is still around, is it still THE recommended driver? Oh, and by the way, I would be driving these wit a 6LU8 SEUL tube amp around 3 or so watts. Currently driving 89db speakers to listeningvolume, but would like a bit more headroom.

That is why I was asking from alternatives, say with a bit more sensitivity.
Fostex FF165WK is more sensitive, but a bit soft in the upper treble, so may need a tweeter for some listeners.

MA 12p is a bit more sensitive that the 10p, but will need a Super Pensil, or Joan enclosure. Should sound nice with your single ended amp, but won't play loud.

Unless you play very loud and have a big room, you will find 90 db 3ish watts is just fine.

I spent a lot of time listening to less sensitive MA than the A10p with a lovely 2A3 SE, and you only felt the need for more power when turned up well above where i would listen

More important than how much power an amplifier has, is how well it clips.

A12p gives you about a dB more (ie not a whole lot), fits into Joan.

Hi guys,
I've been buying up on supplies for fhxl build match to the aleph jzm sold from store here. I ordered a pair of 10p but the supplier called me back as he ran out of stock. He put a few other options for me A12P, MAOP10.2(matched), A11MS and Pluvia 11. He suggested Pluvia 11 but reading returns differing opinions some not so great. Any stand outs from that range of options. I'm in Australia, pretty remote so it's long and costly to order.
Thanks for any help.

Hello.
I have them here: A12.2, A11MS, 10.2MAOP and CHP-90.
I rank these
1. 10.2 MAOP
2. A11MS, CHP-90, A12.2P
All of these are really good.
10.2 MAOP has the smoothest frequency curve. Nothing to be angry about. Best. Hard to find.
A11MS has fastest transients. Good bass power.
Can be experienced as somewhat little bright. Tubes amp lover.
The CHP-90 has a smooth frequency curve, nothing that stands out. Easy listening. Slightly less bass power than the others. Needs some support from a wall or corner.
A12.2 has good bass, higher sensitivity (92db). Easy listening. Smooth. Tube amp lover.
