You can push it a bit if you want. If you can hold your hand on the sink
for 10 seconds without complaint you're OK.

I am planning a 2U chassis and smaller PT. Didn't decide yet, but also leaning towards 200VA. I have high efficiency speakers. Maybe running 1A output bias will be just the thing.
I may yet do that. Choices.....Am I the only one going for the 2U chassis and 200VA transformer?! I've got enough large ones with 500-600VA transformers as it is (M2, F5 Turbo, etc). Part of what I liked about this was the ability to have a diminutive amp ;-)
Question. The store has the Pesante 3U 300 without heatsinks. Where could I source the heatsinks for this project? I know that the PDF mentioned 40MM heatsinks. I saw this one at modushop.
Or would it be easier to just order a Dissipante 03/300B 3U 4mm SILVER
I also have a e-waste Chassis that is kind of the same size as a 3U but I am unsure if the heatsinks are big enough. I was planning on using it for another build.

Jacruzer787,
Looking at images of the tape measure held against the chassis, it looks like the internal dimensions of your chassis is 11" deep vs ~12" deep (300 mm) for the Dissipante, and also less wide (11" vs ~14").
The heatsinks look like ~62mm with base, and the base looks around 7mm thick. This means that the fins are longer than the Dissipante heatsink - this is better as there is more surface area.
The height of the fins if ~5" will be ~127mm, so slightly taller than the Dissipante 3U.
So all in all, thermally this chassis looks to offer similar performance to that of the Dissipante 3u x 300 mm chassis, but the internals are slightly cramped.
Look at the dimensions of the power supply board and transformer, and see if you can fit everything inside that space you have.

I'll do that whenever I get the boards from the mail. from the looks of it, the boards seem smaller than the regular F5, at least from the stock photos. Thanks for the info!Look at the dimensions of the power supply board and transformer, and see if you can fit everything inside that space you have.
I am leaning toward this since I think I paid $50 for it, plus the cost of the essential and completion kit. I might be able to get this thing built dirt cheap. Now to find an appropriate trafo.I think it's enough and I would give it a try.
Fitting the F5m PCBs to the heatsinks will not be a challenge - the PCBs look compact enough. 🙂
I was referring to the power supply board and the power transformer.
Some transformers are larger in size than others... specially the Antec units are on the bigger side.
The power supply PCB looks to be roughly 140 mm x 125 mm - maybe someone can confirm that.
P.S. Some power transformer choices (2 x 18V AC):
250VA unit - will this work with lower bias points? Or undersized?

Antec 300VA seems out of stock:

Antec 400VA is in stock:

Well built, but higher priced unit:

Ah, I get what you mean. I know that post #467 was considering the Antek 4218.I was referring to the power supply board and the power transformer.

That might work since the Chassis is a bit taller than a 3U. I am just unsure of what model. An easy way to free up space for a large transformer, such as one of the Antek 400VA models, is to mount it vertically using a right angle bracket. Here is what that looks like in a Modushop 4U chassis.
