Something to lighten the mood

This should lighten people's mood, apparently CD sales are on the up, hopefully this could lead to more new CD players, a new one from Bang & Olufsen would be cool.
Yes, it certainly does. I was in the CD replication industry when everything was going down hill fast. Many of us lost much more than a job.
But recoveries are amazing and I wish all the best to the survivors!

Bang & Olufsen used Philips CD mechanisms, they have stopped production of audio equipment to my knowledge, and now only do machining of Aluminum.
I think Philips has left the consumer audio market as well.

Best option would be a PC based CD player, some small boards with embedded processor are as big (or small) as a CD drive, which can be upgraded to DVD-R or Blu-Ray in a new build.
Raspberry Pi / Arduino / ARM based units / controllers are also among the choices available to consider.

Purchase several used CD players with digital output (e.g. S/PDIF, TosLink, etc) from the classified ads of your newspaper or Craigslist or audio-trade websites. They are quite inexpensive because the public considers CD players obsolete and embarrassing. Use one of them to play CDs, and store the rest of them in your garage as spares, replacements; to be used if and when the current CD player fails in a non-repairable condition.

I don’t know if I should laugh or cry about that idea Mark.

I’m currently still moving after closing on a house in November.

To note…I gave one Marantz CD player away not long ago. I found 5 CD players that for some reason I still couldn’t let go of.

My Shigaclone is actually still used occasionally in my system.

Besides that, I moved my Rotel RCD855 that I can’t let go of evidently because it was the first piece of “hi end” equipment I ever bought. It’s not working.

I have another RCD855 I bought off eBay that I thought I would replace or repair the original with…I think it’s also got issues.

I have a Philips CD104…because everyone needs to have one??? Last I checked it played…but there were some glitches in functionality.

There’s also an NEC player that I picked up at a Red White and Blue thrift store after my Rotel crapped out as a band aid fill in player. Still works as far as I know…the drawer sticks on and off due to the ancient belt.

If you take that same mentality and apply it to everything in life that I thought I wanted or might need…and then expand that to a family of four that lived in a house for 18 years you get a picture of the hellish nightmare I’m facing.

Why? 🤷‍♂️

I have 3 Pioneer DV-563A DVD/CD/SA-CD players, so that I have spare parts. See them for cheap on ebay still.
same goes for my fav tuner, Yamaha T-85 and old HP test equipment, you need spares/donors to deal with obsolete service parts in the event of a failure.
So pick your favourite CD player and find a spare to go with it, bonus if they all are working :)

CD will be the new Vinyl. Me, I have about 3,000
I need to go to Nelson's place with a case of his fav beer, wine or weed :) and copy some of his music :)
Reminds me of the "a$$, gas or grass, know one rides for free" days :) hey they have a filter for me, I'll fool the AI code
I have ~300, have you managed to upload them onto your music server, archieve yet, a work in progress for me :)
I always thought that music should be dealt with like software, you buy the rights to use the music/data.
If the media it came with, goes kaput, like my hard disk fails, or your LP/CD is crap, all you need to show is your license or key, some proof of purchase etc and away you go. You might have to pay for the new physical media but should not have to re-pay the royalities again, which I assume is the majority of the cost.
I know, in a perfect world ... and I should be a 80+ YO politician too, yeah right, have to get there first :)
Have a nice day folks, soldering, testing done for the day, lunch time and some football/sports for the afternoon pleasure. Freak'n cold outside anyways, ice rinks ..

The Hand Tool Rescue YouTube channel has you covered. I suggest spending the extra $10 USD for the pocket model. Not sure if it's long enough to reach the floor, but if so I say go for it.

He's even taken care of those of you who might possess a masochistic bent (you may get a rise out of this).

While I'm at it, did anyone else have a chance to watch the Chiefs flog the Dolphins last night?

Are those big knobs or smaller knobs?
Some here have preferences you know.
@Galu gets the credit for posting this a while back, and I had to agree.

Funny, I got some of the those Teac Reference components... they look great but they don't really sound so good.

For a while, I got into searching for them in the used audio forums. They don't get much love so their prices can be dirt cheap.

I sold one and gave another one away... I kept the 500 series integrated/tuner and 5 channel receiver... they are gorgeous looking.. and yes, the knobs look really good. Sort of like an HP/Tektronic scope but with a nice champagne gold finish.

This is a great idea. I was just considering, recently, to sell off my last "extra" which is an Audio Alchemy Digital Drive System III. Works great, just doesn't get enough love and playback time. I've rewired the audio outputs and updated some of the digital guts... I guess it's here for the duration now!

This is the first time I have seen a male Anna's Hummingbird at our feeder.

Cal, I'm just northeast of Seattle, so temps a bit warmer than you, but we have plenty of male Anna's hummers down here. Currently have 1-2 females and 2-3 males. Last year in the spring we go chased inside while cleaning feeders - there were at least 10 birds total in the back yard. A flock!

Now that this new male has found your feeder, hopefully he'll stay in the area.
