Sanibel and area got hammered last year. Seems I live in a sheltered area. last hurricane (Irma) went to the east of and the last direct hit was back in 69ish. EYE hit approx 20 miles of me
Ya, the rain we were promised has not materialized. Meanwhile Florida is about to get whacked. Prayers to the people. mike567, hope you are able to prepare.
@cal - that's a sad picture of Bermuda getting socked as well as FLA -- we used to take our boys there and stay in some cottages with a beach and par 3 golf course. Used to go in August (just before hurricane season). Much nicer and stately than the Jersey Shore (RHONJ), easier to get to than the Shore too!
Why would any sane person live in Great Britain?
A Country of damp climate and cold women.

For instance, I got out of the shower at 12 Noon Saturday (Midday) today and found the night lights on. Whatever was going on? Was I going blind or was it a dark Thunderstorm.
Naturally, I disconnected all electrical devices and ventured, NOT, outside with a metal lightning conducting Umbrella. We know this game. 😛

Hopefully the sustained drought hasn’t rendered the ground sufficiently hydrophobic to cause widespread land and mudslides such as already seen elsewhere.
That little bit yesterday could go a long way to helping with the big rains coming this weekend. Fingers crossed. Goodness knows there's just too much bad news out there that a little good can go a long way.
Whatever you cousins get, we get it in a milder form about 4 days later:
We shall probably be OK on the South Coast in Portsmouth, UK this afternoon. But have shut the windows and doors to the greenhouse just in case.

First storm of the autumn season. Called Agnes.

According to the official Surrey BC weather office, it’s now 26C at 4 pm. I have to remind myself it’s October and I live in Canada.
Weather unusual in the UK too. Big floods in the Scottish Highlands, and 24C in Southern England, with warnings to beach goers that there are no lifguards on duty in October.
Long may the warmth last as it keeps my heating bills more affordable.
Of course 2023 could be the year the White Christmas & Big Freeze returns....

We're hoping it's NOT unusually hot here in Oz this Christmas as our son is driving from Perth to Melbourne across the Nullarbor, over 3,400 km (and then the same back!) - and it can hit 50 C in December in some places on that trip. Ouch. A test of our vehicle preparation.
Yup - over 4 inches of rain in two days. Wet... That's twice the amount for the whole of October last year...
The last vestige of summer ended abruptly on Friday. During the morning it was sunny and low-mid 60s. I knew a front was going to blow through and wanted to take a walk before it did. I had a ton of little things to do first and by 9:30 or so I was stepping out the door. The front was supposed to arrive around 1:00 in the afternoon so I thought I had plenty of time.
I was wearing my usual shorts and T-shirt that I wear when walking. It was mild with no hint of cold air in the breeze. I got a little over a mile (goal is 6 miles) and it started to sprinkle. Now there's a little chill in the air. I just pushed harder. I've walked through rain, snow, wind many times. The chill makes me walk a little faster- a good thing right?- and at 2 miles it becomes a driving rain and cold. I start to walk home and the rain is stinging me like ice pellets. The wind picks up even more and the temperature drops. Now it is blustery and the temperature has dropped 20 degrees in 35 minutes. By the time I got home I was chilled to the bone and had put in a little over 3 miles - better than nothing.
And that was it for the mild weather. It's supposed to be below normal for the next seven days and rain for four days straight. Summer is over.

You can't beat a bit of 'weather'. Think how tedious it is in countries where it's sunny for 350 days a year and barely rains for any length of time....?
I'm not sure if you're joking, but it DOES get a bit tedious! Mind you, not enough to come back (my family moved here from Scotland in 1967). But a bit more rain...
In Hawaii the weather is the same every day for months. It even rains at the same time every day.
That doesn't sound bad to me. However I do enjoy the seasons changing. What I don't enjoy is that a certain season lasts way longer than the others; my least favorite season.
