Simple DSD modulator for DSC2

The polarity of the MUTE and DSDON inputs of the latest version of my RTZ shift register DAC can be chosen by mounting the right 0 ohm resistors, see R27...R30 on page 5 of DAC3_10.pdf and the note above them.

Hence, if the modulator only passes on the MUTE signal to the DAC, it should suffice to just mount the right zero ohm resistors. If the modulator itself gets muted, you could try tying its mute input low, connecting the #RED-DOCK's MUTE output straight to the DAC's MUTE input and mounting the right 0 ohm resistors.

Hi Marcel,

Thanks for your reply. I was aware about the setup for MUTE and DSDON in your board but was about the modulator input.

Your suggestion make sense and is more easy to implement.

Can you please confirm that my understanding is correct as per below oneline?

Thanks Marcel and Mark for your help

Just noticed something I thought you should know about. I have been using Foobar2000 to play PCM files, and using PlayPcmWin to play DSD files (since Foobar doesn't play DSD, but its much more convenient to use). Just discovered that Foobar has been adding a small amount of distortion to the sound, which I notice here and there in brief moments of music playback. Thought it was FPGA DSD converter until just now. Found a specific point in a song only about 1 second long where I could plainly hear the effect. Using that I traced the problem to Foobar.

Now find that using PlayPcmWin to play both DSD and PCM gives the best sound. Its GUI is a little clunky but we will have to live with it.

Using Daphile for years without any issue.
Hi Felipe. I'm not suggesting Daphile doesn't work, just that there are issues with some hardware compatability, particularly, it seems, with wifi adaptors. I've used it with an ethernet cabled connection and it works well. It does seem that the level of commitment from the software author has reduced too.

What settings for PlayPcmWin to convert on the fly all PCM to DSD?

TIA
