Exploring Purifi Woofer Speaker Builds

This is a prototype box and no extended listening tests have yet been done. I hesitate to release it until I'm happy it's get a more than a pass mark.

the long slot loaded port is no ideal because the resonances which shows up as nasty harmonic distortion at 500Hz, which really spoil an otherwise fine driver.

In theory works better in a passive radiator box, which I've simulated but not yet built. I haven't got around to simulating a sealed box.

Is this for 4" purifi woofer. Can you share box dimensions cause I have no skill to use above data
These are very nice drivers and it is gonna be a shame to not use them to their full potential, maybe you can find some finished speaker plans. I know hificompas has plans for the 6.5-based speaker, maybe it is worth reaching out to see if he has plans and a writeup for 4.5-based speakers as well?

Playing around with ideas for slections guide for our drivers. Here looking at the volume displacement limits of the SPL vs frequency. Playing loud and deep bass reauires a lot of air to be displaced.

The bass SPL is limited by the maximum volume displacement of the driver (Sd*Xmax). Going one octave deeper needs 4x volume displacement. At higher frequencies the SPL is limited by the power handling. Here are the SPL limits imposed by volume displacement for our line up of drivers. Assumes a single driver in infinite bafle (2pi) at 1m distance. No room gain, no extension from a port.

Hi,

From few months, i think to build a new setup with Purifi.
Some of you surely have had the same ideas.

My room will be small to medium size and active crossover.

For about the same price (without amp), due to the 4 PR required, I could buy 2 Dayton rss315hf-4.
So I've 2 possibilities:

1-
Ptt6.5x with PR at first.
Good coherence between bass and mid.
I'll could add big subs and crossed them low like 80hz.

2-
Ptt6.5M sealed + RSS315hf sealed, crossed at about 200hz.
Maybe not the best match but same low extension at higher spl and better midrange.
The bass drivers could be upgraded with better ones like big Purifi in the future.

Have you some advices ?

Nice chart.

I think seeing actual drivers instead of the textbook physics can go along way towards helping people choose drivers.
And if nothing else, help educate the need for 4X the displacement per octave deeper, and the realities of max low end SPL.
