What do members of diyAudio use as music players?

Get a Rpi first, seem to be in short supply.
No kidding. I've been looking for one for 6 months. First it was just the zeroes you couldn't get. Now it is everything. From what I hear, they are producing 500K/mo, and 4's are slightly more available, but for hobbyists, 1 year+ wait is expected. I have a few 3's in use and hope none go bad before this supply issue is over.

I have a 3rd gen i7 laptop with 1Tb SSD running windows, the player is VLC or Foobar2000 and Spotify. I use USB out into my DAC.
I have 2 SB Touch, one in the shed, the other connected to the main system for my wife to access internet radio.
I do have a Pi 3 somewhere, not used it in ages, it has volumio installed.
Hi batty, I know this is OT but do you use EQ? I just want to know if it is possible to EQ (or parametric EQ) when you use USB out into a DAC? From what I understand is the windows software can EQ the soundcard, but can it also EQ the USB out?

There are many, but RPi is so cheap for a unit with HDMI out. There is a rumour that the original RPi came about because Roku changed the chip they were using for streaming boxes and Broadcomm had a factory churning out SoCs that didn't have a market. How true I don't know...

In Windows there are two ways to go:

1. Fix Windows audio and use Equalizer APO

2.Bypass Windows using a player. EQ within a player and send the stream out via WASAPI eg Foobar allows you to use 31 band graphics EQ, or parametric EQ: https://mathaudio.com/download.htm, or the multitude of high quality VST EQ's:
Download Foobar
Add foo_vst as a component in foobar ("file"->"preference"->"component").
After restart of foobar that should give you a VST setting below "components", that's where you will add the VST 32bit version (no VST3) of the EQ of your choice.
Googling free parametric EQ should give you plenty to try, and of course many more EQs are sold.

After you've added that EQ in foobar, go under "file"->"preference"->"Playback"->"DSP Manager". You should see your EQ on the right and clicking on the + or a double click on the name, will bring it to the left in the "Active DSPs" where you can set it up with the three little dots next to the name. Or later you can just at anytime go find that EQ with "View"->"DSP"->"whatever it's called".

Anything used within foobar will be processed before going out to USB and DAC,
set foobar to wasapi

I play my music on this

Sorry, OT. Actually my system is very basic: cheap and cheerful BT 5.0 Aptx HD receiver with Toslink out, CA One+ or Denon M40, still can't decide if the digital run to the Denon makes up for the drop in over all quality from the Cambridge Audio, but either one depending on my mood driving some TABAQs with FaitalPro 3FE25s and a very basic ported sub. Purists cover your eyes, but I use lamp cord for speaker wire. Sounds great....

I just play FLAC via my pc using foobar 2000. I have all my music stored on a nas. I do find the concept of a dedicated music streamer based on rpi intriguing so i might build one in the future, won't have to turn my pc on every time i want to listen to (digital) music. i don't use any streaming services apart from my own (jellyfin).
