DIY ACA mini

Nice!
how is the pcb attached?

Thanks

I have added 4 wooden support that are the height of the sides minus 1/8” (3mm).

They are located under each heatsink, I’ll just use some wood screws to hold the

P.s. I have of course removed the 4 stand-off that came with the kit.

I was thinking to do something like that but to drill holes where the standoffs would go into. Holes would be deep enough so that pcb is flush to the frame height. That way the pcb can be removed at any time.
...or do none of that and use JB weld 😉 😀

The whole wood base thing is in keeping with the low cost ethic, and fits the “tube amp look”
And more practically, enclosing the heatsinks in any way will raise their temps a LOT.
The need to be free! Or if enclosed maybe a fan?

This is one of those projects that everybody should build, and build as-is. It’s nothing short of amazing. And tiny. And cute.

Why mess with something so awesome?

(That said, the wood plinths are incredible and gorgeous. )

Is 'the amp' for Costa Rica. Low power, low heating, make sure the wood you use in the plinth is from sustainable sources and you're set. 😀

Keep some distance from the heatsink to the wood plinth, see pic below of final assembly, I have a 1/16” (1.5mm) all around the PCB. The heatsink doesn’t touch the wood so it’s all good. My bias is set to 0.45A with each heatsink between 53-55C in a 22C ambient.

What an awesome little kit.

I remember discussing the ACP+ pre-amp with Nelson, and we kept running into the fact that half the cost or more was the chassis. This didn't fit with the idea of giving almost 30 people kits for a (pre) Amp Camp at Burning Amp. More than anything we didn't want people to avoid signing up for the build camp because of the cost. Finally Nelson (who has the advantage of knowing stuff) mentioned we could build it without a chassis if it had a ground plane. We thought the open look was kinda cool and hoped others felt the same. Nelson donated the majority of the parts, I had a bunch of PSU's sitting around, and Linear Systems donated the JFETS. Well the rest is history-we had the camp and the builders built the preamps at no extra cost and liked the look and performance (excellent!) so much they didn't even want a chassis!

Now this second ACA amplifier which is a "complementary" amp, so requires much smaller and less expensive expensive heatsinking, "complements" the original single ended ACA amp which will continue to be available, as they both are great, but different! And the design matches the ACP+.

So the plan is the next Burning Amp will have an Amp Camp on site and build the "mini". Tons o' fun! One way or another we'll also get the new amp available for all. Kits will be at the show, and sooner or later at the Store! Probably later...
