Thanks guys for your Andrea clock impressions and blogs. I considered last minute to sell to a potential buyer before unsealing the SinePi but your impressions made me push on.

So after soldering up the crystal, powering on with 13.2V and getting a i2s lock on the Q3 I'm stuck...

Andrea was kind enough to help me over the weekend troubleshoot and we are thinking the TransportPi may be the issue?

Has anyone successfully implemented this chain? FiFoPi Q3 -> SinePi -> ReClockPi -> TransportPi (OPT OUT) with the 5.6 MHz clock?

We are suspecting the TransportPi doesn't handle 5.6 MHz clock? If that's not the case, we can focus on something else in the chain.

Cheers

Hi

that doesn't work for me, but I don't have a ReclockPi, only TransportPi. I use clock 5,6 with a frequency doubler. That's working.

Thanks for looking into this guys (including Andrea from afar). My main objective in my DIY arc is for an optical S/PDIF toslink output to my Chord DACs. I avoid USB. A SOTA clock should be something wonderful if it works, but these issues happen.

I'm willing to upgrade to a Lundahl transformer if needed, but I doubt that will help. I'll hold off researching doublers till Ian checks the minimum.

Andrea's following this issue in realtime and just verified my clock is soldered properly.

I usually try to use minimal amount of solder, but in this case I went overboard to make sure the connection was not the issue.

After the crystal is solid, I just plug in LiFePO4 13.2V to power up. I get an i2s lock. When I unscrew the SMA, the Q3 flickers indicating no clocks. I screw back in the SMA and get an i2s lock. I'm just not feeding my DAC afterwards.

I can also wait for a TransportPi II if that's what it takes as I can work on the power projects in the meantime. The TransportPi probably didn't have 5.6MHz in mind when released. Which is perfectly understandable.

I have tried the drixo 5.6mhz with the transportpi (spdif out) and my dac could not maintain lock and was distorting on high frequencies. But Via hdmi I2s theres no problem... It seems like the 5.6mhz is too low for spdif output on transportpi. I don't use spdif so this was not an issue for me.

Thanks for weighing in @tubo

That gives me more confidence the implement on Andrea's side was not the issue. I was worried I made a misstep even though it was a straightforward soldering job. Or even if the cable was the issue, but getting an i2s lock sort of defeats it's an cable issue or an implement issue.

@iancanada

Many thanks for looking into this issue. Adding a doubler to get to 11.2896MHz is not the end of the world. I'll do that early 2022 and give feedback at that time.

In theory that should work and @Cerole, sample size of one, confirmed this solution works for his use case.

Going through this process actually helped with my final project design and terminated the process of pursuing DIL14 clocks. I think this is a good endgame solution when all is said and done.

I was seriously considering the Russian clocks @5.6MHz and that would of just been one big headache. It's a special order and once receiving the clock, I would have no answer how to solve the 5.6MHz issue. So it should all work out in the end both headache-wise and added expense-wise.

@Cerole

Damn, if you didn't provide the doubler solution, I would be in a very rough spot. So thanks again for sharing your experience.

The dream will have to wait a little big longer before experiencing the SOTA experience.

Hi Ian,

package arrived with a little delay due to formalities with customs :rolleyes:

ReclockPi works great together with my DDDAC. Nice improvement! :yes:

Thank you! :D

Next step is to install LifePO4 Mini 3.3V (together with existing UCC) for FifoPi clean side. For the input side of LifePO4 a USB charger really is sufficient? Would be great, but I'm a little bit unsure with this point. Would a linear power-supply or a high quality smps bring a benifit, or is the LifePO4 input that much decoupled from the clean side?

Can't complain on the mail, letter arrived today with some nice stuff. Tnx!!!

Thanks guys for the updates. I'm glad that your packages arrived safely.

@michl2604
You can try better supply for the input side and let me know if you get improvement.

Also, please do let me know if you can not track your package. Or didn't receive it after two weeks.

Regards,
Ian
