Is it possible to cover the whole spectrum, high SPL, low distortion with a 2-way?

What a strange question?

No I am obvious on forums because I am passionate about audio.

Unfortunately, many discussions are very far from being constructive and inviting.
It's like non-stop walking on egg-shells with people who mostly parrot each other and (very) often hold these "opinions" with an iron fist.

Yet, don't have any professional experience or at least familiar with the literature that is out there.
(professional is not always equal of knowing these things unfortunately btw)

If they are familiar with it, it's always discussing against each other, not with each other with an open mind.
Instead, try to understand someone else's point of view?
The amount of testosterone is often quite high. 🙁

Also people don't seem to read very well.
Even in this thread I suggested a couple of these books already before.

Maybe I am that grumpy guy again, but after a while I just really loose my interest and patience when multiple people suggested to dive in the literature.

So why am I responding anyway one might wonder?
I don't know, maybe just a little bit of hope, that at least a lurker is being helped by it.
But often I ask that question myself even.

Sometimes it feels a bit like people just don't want to know things, and just enjoy chatting about stuff for no reason.
Once again, there is a lot of literature out there to read.

Forgot to add, but a general acoustics book is also always advisable.
Something like Acoustics by Beranek or so
And fyi, skip all the boring math parts.

Well if you put it that way....I agree...There are times when I've run into discourse which was proven my way by a single attempt of a Google search.

A little Drama ain't never hurt nobody...Moderators keep things tight.... B_force some of the information you've shared here I find very valuable.

So why am I responding anyway one might wonder?
I don't know
- Because you are passionate...you just lean towards a different approach of knowledge acquisition than you've seen in this thread. So you seek to suggest an alternative.

Because of input from yourself and others like you, theres a lot to think about, in this thread....I have had several people thank me for this thread.....Maybe one of those people will read the books you suggest and be better for it...

Current problems to be solved....
15m with incorrect Thiele specs needs to be addressed...
Some type of proper horn stand needs to be obtained...
Larger horn still being made in Germany somewhere...
I work a lot of hours but soon I will be free for the winter...

If I say I didn't have some of the largest and most controversial threads on other forums and fb groups...that would be a lie.
I missed this before, perhaps you could post links to these other threads

"Creativity is the highest form of intelligence because it goes beyond knowledge recall and extends into knowledge creation."
Creating something new in audio would be awesome and is certainly better than only having memorized what has gone before. It is hard to create something new without understanding or knowledge of what already exists though, and truly new ideas in audio don't come along very often.

You made comment about how the 3 audio files you created with different timbral profiles represented a distortion that was low in priority on your list....
I simply disagreed to its lack of importance....one of those files about caused physical pain and this is just one frequency imagine the distortion spread across the whole midrange....Must be my musician ears that are super sensitive to distortions...I'd be highly dissatisfied. Luckily those are extreme representations, maybe thats why you say they're priority is low.
Then I think you misunderstood what I did and what I meant.

The audio files were manipulated in phase only. They were of a 400Hz square wave. So the fundamental was 400Hz but there is many more frequencies involved to make a square wave.

In one file this caused clipping which was obvious and easily detected and was just meant as a demonstration of how a phase change could create a problematic amplitude change.

The two other files were an original sample of the square wave and one where the phase change made the waveform look nothing like a square wave but yet it still sounded like a square wave, at least to my musicians ears. This is a lot like what happens in a crossover with some group delay.

The ear and brain are able to sort out a lot and a garbled waveform can be heard to sound very much like the original.

This general principle is why almost all research on phase tends to come to the conclusion that these sorts of phase changes are not a highly audible problem.

So when ranking defects in a speaker that are highly audible, this sort of waveform trashing comes down the list for most. You can disagree and there have been a number of notable individuals that prioritized waveform fidelity very highly. For myself I have conducted lots of unscientific listening to different filters and phase changes to try and discern my preference and on the whole I prefer less phase change and to me the difference is more audible as frequency goes down. The differences are easy enough to hear but deciding which is preferred is much harder and changes based on program.

Going further with hiking and nature.
I used to do some serious hikes myself.

To use that as an example.
Instead of getting the basics right what one need to prepare for such hikes, we are basically talking about the best shoe laces.

Like I said before, top down approach.
Next, first start with a little walk to gain some experience.

Same here. Changes in lower frequencies and at crossover regions are more audible for me.

Phase changes in lower frequencies affect intelligibility in the mid-range for me.

Preference is sometimes hard to establish because of recording differences.

Your hostility is showing lol

Heres something to think about....Do I care about;
The missing money from my pocket on drivers that are not meeting spec
orrrrrrrr
What pAuL7052 thinks about my project....rofl.....

Which one do you think I'll lose sleep over first?

Thank you for coming here and expressing your "pity".... it shows you have real character.
I look forward to finishing my project this winter, as well...hopefully I can get my mid driver sorted and theres other loose ends that need to be tied up.

I have no deadline to punch as far as finishing the system....6 months out of the year I consider the project on hold, due to work. Since there is no dead line...there is no anxiety. Because its my time and money...I set the pace.

Feel free to start your own thread and/or conversations regarding your projects! Actually start some conversation here if you'd like...or not...I certainly will not be moved one way or another if you do or do not lol!

This thread has been everything....for me and my project. It seems you'd want to come and destroy what I've created...but you are too late...plus I have more material....you are actually helping generate content. I thank you for that.
