And what did we buy today?

Cal - I took my wife to the estate sale where I got that PC. Just for a little fun - she got some stuff too - on my second time around.

It's now W10 and has a more or less permanent place on my bench, large as it is. The proc performance is about the same as the breadboard PC; it streams, I can look at stuff on ebay, or get a .pdf showing a view of something I'm working on.

Bigun - now that they're home, your face must look like your avatar!

Joe, since it was all things donated by the owners to the cause of our strata's contingency fund, they really didn't want to pack a itt back up so I spent $57 in total and ended up with things like oak end tables a nice full set of golf clubs with bag and whole bunch of other things we don't need including jewelry and kitchen items.
The most expensive thing was $5. It was for a pair of really nice shower heads. The golf clubs were $2. I think I might sell them and donate it back to the strata.

A new refrigerator to replace my 20+ year old one. Condenser fan bearings dried up. Ice maker on the fritz. Time to replace it.

Stay away from LG as they have class action lawsuits on poor reliability.
Those energy star ratings have added software and unproven long term linear compressors in their quest for efficency which on the surface works well - for awhile…,

Talk to any 30 year repairmen and you will find out this is all they do now is fix these so called “new energy star designs”

Went thru this mess after my 5 year old went belly up.

All of the repairmen I talked with have told me the day of the 15-20 year old
Refrigerators are over and mfgrs today don’t really care about keeping this reputaion going

What I don't like about the fridges of today is they ice up too easily. The condensation drain plugs and you have to thaw it out. I have a 30 cu ft. unit so I need to use a lot of coolers and a couple neighbour's fridges just to do that. I ended up using a wire rod connected to the thawing element down into the drain tube. Works okay but it's not long enough so it still freezes once in a while. Will have to do it again one day.

some LED bulbs for my basement

Agree totally. When I was a much younger man and bought my first appliances, they lasted 20+ years. The replacements for those lasted maybe 10 years. And the replacements for those lasted 5 years, and in some cases, not even. I had a washer crap out just after the warranty expired. It ruined the load of laundry by getting black grease all over everything, and then I was quoted $600 to fix it. Appliances are all junk now, mostly made by the same company under different brand names. Very disappointing.:redhot:
