And what did we buy today?

Picked this all for about the price of one CD in the store (US $22) at a couple yard sales the past two weekends. Got a pair of JBL HLS 615s for $10, from the place where I got the loose stack.

Whomever had them put a pair of feet on just the front corners, to tip them back slightly. One had a fancy cable still hooked to it. I bet s/he enjoyed their jazz through those. Didnt see anything that may have drove them - never do.

Cleaned them up, had a listen, sound great - now what? I have too many speakers...

Including a set of HLS610s. Gee, I wonder what would happen if I saw a set of HLS620s for $20? MTM arrangement - Ooooohhh!

I missed out on 3.44 acres at a tax auction. The heirs apparently used the treat to auction (which would have wiped out the liens against the property) to beat down the liens holders, then paid off the tax.

Enlightening experience though.

Of 117 properties, only 31 were left for auction. The remainder were redeemed within the last week.

A yardstick (accidently managed to ship one with some fabric a year ago),

Eight M4 T-nuts for my experiment in casting speaker chassis in concrete (those were EXPENSIVE).

And a Dayton Audio DC-250 for a sub. This was on sale on a nationwide car audio shop, but ONLY one of these were left in Sweden and I managed to have it sent from another shop to here.

Hundered years ago I built speakers from Wharfedale kits. The low freq driver was 12", but since them I haven't fiddled with anything larger than 6.5", so my first 10" ever.

A track cog to complete the ~$400 in bike repairs from the previous purchase. First ride attempt sounded like a cement mixer full of rocks. The shop apparently missed that the cog teeth were shaped little waves instead of symmetrical mountains.
If a boat is a hole in the water you pour money in, what are modern bikes?

A pot hole in the road. Money pits in the case of expensive wheels for sure. Learned my lesson - every pair of carbon wheels I had ended up getting DESTROYED on pot holes and railroad tracks. Just like all the dead carbon wheels and riders out of the race you see on the Paris-Roubaix every year. Conventional wheels only now.

Thanks for confirming my suspicion. Looked at carbon to replace original wobbly Mavics but didn't feel confident in carbon holding up to regular curb jumping and gravel abuse. Went with Scribe Pace (UK) alloys instead if they ever ship. Reputed to be bombproof, carbon light and inexpensive as far as wheelsets go.

Some Toshiba to923L stuff, 2SA1020 and 2SC2655.

I'm hoping they are OK for a predriver, or VAS....wanting to use something "better" than BD139/140 but not really having a clue!

Well, I am impressed how well they match for Hfe on my TC1 ...

I must have 50% that I can match NPN to PNP

Astounded.

I am lucky to have a friend stupidly into bikes in CA. When he upgrades I get the cast offs. Complete 9 speed campy setup with 2 spare sets of rear cogs halved the cost of my current bike. Still miss the 1985 peugeot it replaced. I'm old school and rather liked the ride of 753 but I really did run that one into the ground. When he goes e-shift I'll get his 10 speed chainsets :D

Never ever been brave enough for silly expensive wheels, but my bike is an all year round commuter (at least until the pandemic).

But I do need a new front tyre. Why do continental bike tyres perish after 6 months?

Obviously you've never owned a boat.

Which ones? The Gaterskin on the front of my bike is a couple of years old at least. Looks fine, but I don't ride that much.

Grand prix 4000 I think. used to run Gatorskins and they didn't last that long. I need industrial puncture proofing as the winter rains flush flint shards onto the roads. About 3mm long and shaped like arrowheads. I used to like the specialised armadillo with steel bands. Heavy but not as heavy as carrying your bike for a few miles with a flat in the dark.

Nowdays just slime the inner tubes. I wasn't built for ultimate speed so can handle the weight penalty :D

(Damnit want a second bike now...)
