DIY Sony VFET pt 2 (N-Channel Build)

Usually on the deluxe chassis (F5, F6) I hide the front panel to keep from scratching it and install it last. Before building the V-fet amp I looked over 6L6's build guide for the part 1 V-fet amp. Very early in the guide he installed the front plate and I wondered why and keep going with the front plate still wrapped in paper and hidden away, But I did notice the holes in the top and bottom covers were offset and would only work one way.

I really had to work to get the front panel on and realized that 6L6 had figured that out in his guide. It was (to me) easier to build it without the front panel on but harder to finish it.

I recommend anyone that has not started or is just starting view the build guide and realize the front panel is easier to install earlier in the build and it will make you place the bottom cover in the correct orientation. I had to un-mount the power supply/filter board to get the front panel on. Still was worth all the effort.

wide paper masking tape is best friend you can get for build

two layers of same is very effective protection from scratches

with years, I realized that best praxis is - when dealing with unknown format of case, is to make complete mockup assembly first, just to see where I am and is there anything I can improve/change

for instance - longer screws for base plate, so I can put some risers there (even 2 or 3 M5 nuts are good enough) so having some clearance between base plate and bottom cover, so I can route mains wires in between

anyway , mockup being main thing in this post

why does that reminds me of mocking up?

:clown:

Gate resistors in the schematic are both 100 ohms. In the kit there are different, one is 100 ohms (R3) and the other is 82,5 ohms (R4). Leave it like is it in the kit or replace it?

Any recommendation for C2 on FE? I see that some use different caps here.

there is really nothing you can hear as difference , between 82 and 100R

nor it means anything for any imaginable function factor

C2 - everyone is having own fave poison ; I like Papachoices, choosing to add my own Melange, in form of 1uF MKC bypass, wherever I see signal flowing .....

Thank you Zen. What is the lowest voltage (35V ??) and capacitance that can be used in place of C2. I would like to experiment with my caps on stock?

it's alive.It's Alive.IT'S ALIVE.

#073 lives.

What a lovely sounding amp!

Running it into some Voigt Pipes currently being "adjusted", so may need to pull out some other speakers to give it a proper listen.

Question is, will it deal with ESL-57's?
