Jean Hiraga is the primary link between those two Hi-Fi worlds.
FWIW, I used some Fane bullet tweeters about ~7500 Hz and they were excellent. Bought them right here on the swap meet, IIRC. At the correct level they were subtle and natural sounding. They did help with warmth on strings, like violins.
Yes, hius fault, lol. , I still remember the hype around some Tad expensive metal horn tweeter that were tweaked. JH with his reviews from Japan bring us a field of dream... not always on the rational side though. I heard an onken system , filter tweaked by him few years ago with this tweeter as a guest in a Melaudia association open door moment - cool guys, mainly High splk, horns, Japan, very french hifi sided-... the man was still kicking : sounded natural, but the Onken... room was huge and difficult. OT, sorry. Despite it was sounding natural Tad, was not my personal tastes... I don't like those tweeters, again... of course personal 'pinion 😱 !
Pano, I remember Troels made a mini reviews of super tweeters, included the Visaton in the Loudspeaker I pages if my memory serves me well, but often it doesn't ( The Loudspeakers II ?)
As you can't possibly hear it, any more than you can run a 2min mile, your subjective tests aren't worth much. If you don't want people's actual experience, why bother asking in a public forum, unless of course it was simply to get your idea confirmed? In your snide remark you didn’t seem to acknowledge I’m using both measurement and hearing.

I remember seeing that page too and tried to go there just now. Firefox took issue with it. So did Safari . . . . .
Does everyone else get this?

I got through, try this link The-Loudspeaker-2
Edit…..that visaton is actually looking pretty good!
Glad I saw the real world response of that t90a, it was a front runner before seeing that…..thx iggy.

Thanks for the link! It does look pretty good. So does that Russian ribbon.
With the decrease in the number of storefronts it gets expensive having to buy a driver just to see if it might work. Too bad there couldn't be a lending library of parts to be loaned out for trial and purchase if it works. 'Been discussed a few times on various forums over the years. . . . . . .
Whatever driver you end up trying, please post. Thanks

Are you listening to these speakers or are they yet to be assembled? Do you have a link to the project?
Hearinspace, problem seems to be procurement!
I looked for the visaton and found spotty availability only from Europe…….the via wave has been updated to a new improved model but is quite pricey and again availability is also sketchy.
In a perfect world a driver share program would be nice but with high dollar drivers theres too much risk I would think, not to mention shipping costs! Just have to make educated guesses, I’m going to post a wanted ad for the visatons in the swap meet to see if there’s any laying around……I’m not too hopeful though.
The fostex T96a and the heil/ess AMT III are really the only things readily available within my $400/pr price range that seem to meet my criteria although still not sure if a dipole would work well with my setup…….would probably buy the visatons today if I could find them in the U.S.
Allen, they are yet to be assembled due to situational handicaps! Soon though 😛
Here’s the original link and I’ll also post the XO values as they were not supplied in the link. Driver are B&C de250 and eminence delta 10b (16ohm)

There seems to be a few NOS Realistic 40-1310a floating around eBay at fairly reasonable prices……it’s said if you remove the the internal low quality cap & inductor then use a quality series cap to set your HP that it’s a decent alternative? Anyone know anything about these?
I think they were made by Fostex for RS.

Visaton: Digikey just says "Available to order". Maybe they can get them. Or you could give Parts Express a call. I'm sure they can get them, but not sure that they will. 😉
The Old Rat Shack super tweeter? Yes, Foster AFAIK. Like nay people, I owned a pair many years ago.

Good morning.. I would like to share my experience with this fostex T96 A super tweeters. I heard them years ago at the Michigan AK fest. Madisound had a b 16 kit with those tweeters and with supra cables and a $800.00 integrated tube amp powering and running them. I know they were Crossed over at 10 kHz with 1 capacitor on the tweeters. The 6 1/2 inch FF 165's sounded very good. I know prices have gone up alot on all products so picking the right super tweeter is a hard task. I have not looked at the real world measurements but, like my engineer friend said blend the drivers in into you like where sounds good to you..He always checked on paper and measured them as well.. Good luck..I hope you find the super tweeters your looking for..Cheers Jeff
I’ll call digikey tomorrow and see what they say, but usually that kind of thing doesn’t end well.
The ‘rat shack’ tweeters seem to have a decent fr curve Radio Shack / Realistic 40-1310 Horn Super Tweeter
Thx Jeffrey, did you mean the t96a/t96re ? I can’t find a reference to a96t?
Edit……I looked up the Madisound kit and it referenced the t90a…..was that the one?

Well Bob, we are hoping that you will buy a pair of the Rat Shack and let us know. Even better if you can measure them. 😀
It seems as though the ones labeled realistic are made in Japan (fostex) and the ones marked radio shack are made in China and/or Korea ( ?) it’s still looking like 2-300 dollars a pair so at that point I might as well try to get the visatons first?
I need to start playing lotto again……then buy em all when I win! 😀

That is also my plan for financing all my audio dreams.
At $300 a pair, I don't think I'd go for those. Too big a risk.

There is a pair of the realistic (Japan) LNIB both for $180+ shipping but that’s still a bit of a stretch, especially for something 40 +/- year old…..before I did that I believe I would go with the t96a from madisound. Still think visatons are in the lead so far but still can’t get that ess amt dipole out of my head. Wife thinks I’m having a online affair! 😀
I just stumbled across this from Ciare:
Product – Ciare
No publish polars that I can find, but it's not $$. Who sells Ciare here in the USA? (now owned by 18Sound)

usspeakers carries some but not that particular one. Ciare Speaker Parts - Ciare Speakers - Ciare high power subwoofer speakers - Ciare Speakers - Ciare 12.00 SW 12" & Ciare 18.00 SW 18" high power subwoofer speaker systems. Ciare subwoofer speakers available now.
Edit….the 1.26 Ciare shows promise? I could machine a tube for it (neighbor has a small metal/machine shop.

Yep, I was just looking at that. The big Ciare bullet is as expensive as the Visaton.
The CIARE 1.38 TW is worth a look, I think.

It does look promising. Too bad Ciare don't publish polar plots. I'm sure a nice wood or heavy metal case would look good on it.1.26 Ciare shows promise? I could machine a tube for it (neighbor has a small metal/machine shop.
Perhaps google around for reviews or people who've used it.
