don't want to discuss them in general, having enough of these for repair ...... and never being impressed with legendary 3020
this detail (Mos+bjt) being sole reason for puzzlement ........
but, not saying that one can't find plethora of nice tricks in their schematics

Ah, the explorer spirit. Do they offer bridges at Ali?
Dang! Now why didn't I think of that? I'll let you know if I find a good deal! 😉

I've smoked one beyond repair (according to repair shop) in my earlier HIFI days. I bridged it into a 4Ohm 76dB sensitive diy copy of the Apogee Scintila. That was before I learned not to do that 😀.
(I'm sorry - had to tell that story....back to topic)
Right ones?

2SA1943
Those are suspect, wrong package for 2SA1943
2SA1941/2 better behaved than 2SA1943. Look at Ic-Vbe curves for each.
Each new generation of Toshiba output are die shrunk compared to previous series, contrast 2SA1265 to 2SA1941 Ic-Vbe curves. I believe it happened again with TTA series.
The second highest current model i.e. 2SA1941 or 2SA1942 (which share the same die in different package) usually have best overall balance of characteristics.

I was evidently distracted , so was thinking that twitchie was asking about 2SA1491, and they;re in sorta that package
though - I know that I saw same packaged 2SA1943/2SC5200 in last few days , at reputable Vendor pages
I was sorta surprised, but - not that I'm using much bjts in last few years

2SA1943N
Wow, looks like they offer the large die in TO3P as 2SA1943N ! Mouser has wrong datasheet attached showing large package non N 2SA1943. Would still prefer the smaller die in larger package 2SA1942 but not stocked by distributors.

The ones I posted previously are from Mouser and they have it listed as a new item so Motorola must be putting them into TO-247 now.
I got a batch of the older package from Digikey so I have both now

reichelt.de is a big vendor too but sells sometimes fakes.....
I think that statement needs to be followed up by a specific example.

- Amplifiers
- Pass Labs
