If 82K resistors are hard to find, 100K will work and extend the bass just a bit lower.

Actually I think you would be better off converting the Lo Eq section to a subsonic filter instead of bypassing it. For a 20Hz subsonic rolloff:

Change C1, C2, C5 and C6 to 0.1uF

Change R1, R3, R5, and R7 to 82K ohms

Thanks. I was able to source the 82K no issues.

Otherwise, do all the other components values remain the same as per sketch ?

Since you can't search for "F5" in a thread because it's too short, I would like to ask if the general opinion is that a pair of F5s would be sufficient power for the LX minis in a 10Hx15Wx20D ft room . This will be for Jazz and not Rock or high listening levels but I want to be sure all the dynamics will be covered.

I’m thinking along similar lines in a smaller room.. But gonna try the 10wpc VFET amp on the top, the next question is what would match up with the VFET amp, hmmmm maybe a Hockey puck VFET amp putting out 30-60wpc?

I think I heard Siegfried admit that 70 on the bottom was probably Ok. He did like the option of listening loud. So OK is still very loud.

Then the F5 may not be enough on the bottom. But I'll experiment. Maybe plan B would be to use the clarity of the F5 on the top/full range which would be more critical than the bottom driver. Maybe a lesser quality amp for the bottoms to get to 100 watts wouldn't hurt the overall sound quality too badly.

Or maybe an F5 Turbo build is in order... I've ordered everything for the LXMini build from Madisound. I have this Crossover kit coming. So I'm pretty-much all in on this one. Probably stupid to cut corners on the Bottom End amp. Right? I really wish those Chassis for the amps weren't so darn expensive! The fact the major cost of the build is a metal box just rubs me the wrong way.

Actually the chassis of most amps include heatsinks which are relatively expensive to produce amd ship and are essential for the amp to function, so it isn’t just a box...many people make their own chassis’ and they are a good way to express your artsy side. A slow moving computer fan will double the efficiency of a heatsink at a minimum, probably much more.... I do appreciate the irony that the LX mini can appear to be a screaming bargain, but then the crossover and amps make it expensive.

Siegfried Linkwitz recommended reasonably priced commercial amps such by Emotiva. Perhaps you should build a chip amp for the lower driver. and see how it sounds.there are theads for them on this site. I’m going to power my LX 521 sub woofers with a Class D amp, but they handle much lower frequencies than the LX Mini, so it’s less of an issue.

The F5T is a massive amp and from what I hear, not a good amp for inexperienced builders.

You can order just the heatsinks at the store I believe. And there are suppliers of finned aluminum extrusions online. Surplus sinks are available online too, but seldom big enough. Shipping is pricey. I used to stop by a new/used metal supply store because they would occasionally get big recycled heatsinks, which I would buy even if not planning a build in the near future... It helps you stand out among your friends when you go gaga over a big chunk of finned aluminum..

Thanks for the reply Variac. I understand and totally agree with your comments. I've already built an ACA, B1 Korg, F5, and 6-24 Xover. All with zero problems (Knock on wood!) so I don't think the Turbo will be too challenging.

And having the signal chain as B1 Korg to the Pass Xover to F5 for high and F5 turbo for lows is just cool IMHO. And don't take my comment on the chassis too seriously. I can certainly afford it and a Turbo F5 build cost compared to a similar performing Class A amp is certainly the bargain of the century. Thank you for that Mr. Pass!!!
