Germanium investigations

When I was studying I also learned than going from Germanium to conventional transistors was a big technical step forward. But still with tubes some very fine oscilloscopes was made with sensitivity in uV area. So maybe going from tubes to Germanium was not a very big technical step forward other than cost, size and heat dissipation. MTBF is probably also better with Germanium 🙂

Do you have any Germanium power amps noise/distortion measurements to look at to get an idea how it looks?

OK....so the reason for Germanium is that they have something to offer not possible with tubes or FETs?
I have a preamp with JFET transistors . And there is a power amplifier with MOSFET transistors . I like them . But that doesn't stop me from also loving the sound of germanium preamps...And I'll probably also make a power amplifier with germanium transistors ...

Some years ago I "cleaned up" in some old electronic components and a lot of these types were trashed:
OC 47, Tube OC47; Rohre OC 47 ID38188, Transistor
Also some germanium power transistors which was factory packed in pairs. They where quite large in size. Maybe you would have liked them.....
The small black coated transistors like OC47 went very light sensitive if the black coating was removed. Think this "feature" was utilized to convert them to a kind of photo transistor.

In the 70s,many radio Amateurs in my country had difficulty acquiring certain types of radio elements . And there were cases when photo-transistors were made from germanium transistors . Carefully cut off the upper part of the metal body of the transistor . It worked .

I like germanium expression with music. What can I say, I still believe in FETs being friends of mine, having that "over the top, over the top" presence, in back of my head. But germanium just fully employs itself, being 360° present. Si BJT types are nice, but just too active in a way for me. I am not allergic, just paranoid. They are in back of my head, also in front of me, already gone and still here. It is okay, just makes.it very difficult for me to use my ears to create this weird cinema of mind and soul. Way too sober for me, I just cannot take it often. That we are sober. Clinically cynical. Guess I am, often. And it's just reflecting too strong with Si BJTs. I have never tried those SiC and stuff tho.

But Germanium transistors are not made anymore in Russia?

Are there also special quality of the 6c33c triode or were they all made for military use.....for the MIG25?

EMP? It's NP for the 6C33C-B Tube | thetubestore Blog
Germanium transistors were produced in the USSR up to and including 1991 . I have these transistors made in 1991 . In the USSR, the release date was usually indicated on the transistor case ( if the transistor had a metal case ) ......Lamps and transistors for military products were more strictly selected by parameters . And on the body of the element was a stamp of military acceptance . Such elements are considered to be more reliable . The 6c33c lamp was produced in large quantities . I think that the rumors about its development specifically for the MIG-25 are greatly exaggerated .

You are being deceived!
