The numbers out of Italy are not really encouraging. Age could be a factor. SK has very few deaths and I did read somewhere that the Shincheonji cult has a lot of young members and were responsible for a lot of the early infections.

Infection Tracking // Italy
The hospitalization rate spells trouble.
That infection tracking bar graph is disturbing. So few people are being sent home to self quarantine, most end up in hospital. This seems more like the early numbers out of Wuhan, not like the overall Chinese numbers. I wonder if the situation in Iran is equally dire...
I'm still suffering post Shingles pain at 3 years out - I was immune suppressed to control Myasthenia Gravis
being in full remission of MG symptoms I'm tapering the immune suppression drugs quicker than my Doctor approves
but I live in Cambridge, I'm 62, probably lost 15% of lung capacity to radiation treatment after the Thymectomy, my climbing partners and tenants teach, I climb in a rock gym, go to regular gym for Pilates, swim, whirlpool, eat out...
maybe my strategy should be to get covid-19 before all the ICU beds/ventilators are full?
on the other hand my brother has a vacation place on the Lake of the Ozarks...

You joke about intentionally getting CV19, but I'm not so sure that's not a bad idea. I already wrote about how my daughter was in hospital last week for pneumonia. We showed up in the line at emergency for triage, and from triage were walked immediately to a private room for isolation, never even went to the admissions desk. I was thinking "this can't be normal, and how can it be sustainable if things go South?"
I wonder if the situation in Iran is equally dire...
A couple hundred Iranians have died of alcohol poisoning -- MeOH -- I don't think these get reported in the WHO numbers.
Perhaps the manner of communal prayer has led to more exposure and infection. Iran's nemesis, Saudi, has put the brakes on worship in many areas.
There don't seem to be really good numbers of the number of Chinese working in Iran, although the latter country is one of China's largest suppliers of crude. The two countries have an enormous long term trade deal, part of the "Belt and Road" initiative.
Italy we know has the largest Chinese worker population in the EU.

If you're on something like methotrexate, yeah, getting off that before you get the virus sounds helpful. I'm not a doctor, though, so don't listen to me. 🙂
You might be fine though, closer to 60 than 70 and in shape. Very early data suggests people with cardiac issues or high blood pressure are more vulnerable.
I mean do talk to a doctor before anything drastic, jcx. There's been talk where immunosuppressants are indicated for Covid-19 patients, which has been fast-tracked into a small trial: Efficacy and Safety of Corticosteroids in COVID-19 - Full Text View - ClinicalTrials.gov
But the details clearly different from your case. My aunt has rheumatoid arthritis, and I'm concerned for her, although she is fortunately otherwise very healthy.

Italy we know has the largest Chinese worker population in the EU.
And one of the oldest populations in the world. Perfect storm.
I'm just troubled by the fact that I am a member of the 'elderly population' which is most at risk.
At which point should I start to panic (or reach for the toilet roll)? 🙁
I have no immune system and survive on regular injections to artificially boost the immune system. And am 68 this year.....
The attack rate of this is amazing. It's not quite measles I'm sure, but still. I've never had influenza in my life to my knowledge, and I only started getting a shot last year. I'm confident if I spent 10 minutes in a room with someone infected with this I would get it.
The flu shot is highly recommended Chris. I had flu for the first time ever two years ago when 55, and was quite ill (although only in bed at home and not hospital) but it convinced me to start vaccinating! I was quite surprised how bad I felt and suddenly realised what the hype was about.

Agreed. I'm still in my 30s so I just hadn't really given it much thought before. More than anything else it's been the constant stream of BS from anti-vaxxers that reminded me to get it.
I looked at it and imo the wiki downgrade is correct based on comments of grandfather in ww1 and others living at the time.

I'm not an anti-vaxer but did notice employees where I worked always became ill with a flu like thing after receiving the 'free' corporate vaccine. Just saying.
Of the current drugs being trialed in patients with SARS-CoV-2, do you have any thoughts on what is going to be the most effective?
I see that lopinavir + ritonavir, remdesivir, and chloroquine/hydroxychloroquine seem to be good candidates. I wonder if a triple therapy would help and mitigate resistance.
You cannot administer ritonavir and chloroquine together.
Ritonavir is highly interactive with many other drugs, it either amplifies or diminishes the effects of other drugs unpredictably. In HIV it is usually given not because ritonavir itself is effective but because it amplifies the effectiveness of other anti retro virals to very high levels.
Back when it first came on the market there was a spike in people dying.
That was because a lot of HIV patients suddenly started to feel much better and celebrated by partying on New Years Eve taking MDMA (Ritonavir first became available in November).
Turned out that ritonavir amplified the effect of MDMA (ecstasy) by between 50 and 500 times.
Has anyone come across information on asthma as a pre-existing ("comorbid") medical condition?
Here's a quote from an article from Nation Geographic.
Asthma action plan
Beyond cardiac health, the coronavirus outbreak has serious implications for people with chronic respiratory illnesses such as cystic fibrosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, or allergies, as well as for people with lung damage linked to smoking.
But that's all that's said about asthma. Any more information would be appreciated.
